Built motor = add boost to Race Ported Eaton?

Been meaning to post this for a while.

BADASS03SVT and myself proved on the dyno and on the track with a stock longblock that the best pulley combo for drag racing and overall power out of a Race Ported Eaton is a 2.9/6lb combo. Running the old proven combo of a 2.9/4lb combo put out a few hp less and a few tq less.

I think we both added more boost on the dyno and at the track but nothing showed up.

So....

Over the winter I had a Boss 5.0 Big Bore engine built at 9:1 compression, stock cylinder heads with new springs for custom cams, custom cams for a 2.3 Liter blower done by the engine builder Michael @ L&M Engines. Still running the 2.9/6lb combo but wanted to see if adding more rpm's to the blower if anything could show up on the dyno.

We went from a 2.9 upper to a 2.7 upper on the dyno resulting in 1.5 psi of extra boost. Nothing showed up.

So we're back to the 2.9/6lb combo still being as fast as you can spin a Race Ported Eaton and anything after that just won't do anything.

I sure tried and wanted to find some more hp, tq, or even a few more rpm's out of the blower that I could use but nothing. Sure I could spin the blower as fast as I was but it would not do anything other than build heat. The hp/tq curvers are already there and by spinning it faster it will not add rpm's to move your peak higher to make more power. Only the opposite in that it will hurt it if you're at max pulley combo already.

Just a few thoughts I've been meaning to post. I wanted to make 600hp with a Race Ported Eaton through the auto in my car but it fell short.:( Not sure if we'll dyno it again or not.

Interesting info. Bigger isn't always better I guess. You never really see people run a 2.9/6lb combo, or at least from what I've seen...

So what have the best numbers been on a dyno for a 2.9/6lb combo through a stock bottom end and a 6 speed?

The 2.9/6lb combo is gaining some steam and becoming more popular.

A fully setup ported Eaton combo can make between 535hp to 550hp. My own car on that setup made 545hp corrected through my 6 speed.

I just sold my caged 4 lb to go to this 6 lb/2.9 . I haven't got to really try it out because first trial street run I broke both aux idler bracket bolts . Now car been down with razor edge front lightweight bumper and killer chiller install .

The killer chiller will probably be sick with the port. Let us know how you make out. I'm considering doing a upper/lower port or twin screw. I'd consider the port as a cheaper (to hold me over) type deal until funds for a twin screw come around. Seems the ports are fun.

That's strange they broke on you. You're going to love the instant torque lol. Seems you're doing some good upgrades too.

Thanks Bob. We did this a while back and I finally got around to posting it. I thought it was pretty interesting and was hoping for a few hp/tq.

I feel like I'm over spinning with a 2.8/4lb and about to put a 3inch upper on to try out and see how it feels.. The 2.9/6lbs would be spinning me more not sure if it could handle it, I'm already hitting 16.5psi. I'm also on a steig stage 5 not sure how much different it would be between the two though..

Is there more to be had with the 2.9/6lb than my 2.76/4lb or is it just a wash? Always been curious as to if the 2.9/6 combo would be spinning the blower faster or if the 2.9 is just less likely to have belt slip although i don't believe i've had that issue to the best of my knowledge.

If you like to street race then less boost is better.

but

If you like the torque or to have fun on the street when the car is properly cooled down and ready for it then you can easily run a 2.9/6lb combo or a 2.76/4lb combo. Those 2 combo's are virtually the same.

I like the largest upper you can run for less belt slip.

Good info. I can't wait to take mine apart this winter and start messing with different pulley combos.

just out of curiosity, what kind of boost should a 2.9/6# and 2.76/4# race ported blower be making with long tubes and dragon tb/intake?

It's fun to move around with the combo's because you can feel the car act differently to each one.

Somewhere between 15.5 to 17 would be my guess.

Thats what i figured. Brian, im right at 15.3 the whole way through. If 17 is the max reccommended psi would you think the 2.76/6# would be the combo i should use to get to that 17 since my 4# isnt getting me there?

i hate to leave any power on the table , even if its just 10-15 hp

No sir the MAX pulley combo for an Eaton from testing on my stock motor and the built motor in my car is either the 2.9/6lb'er or the 2.76 (2.8)/4lb'er.

I know a few people that run the 2.76/6lb combo and maybe on their cars it's what they like but I never found anything hp wise at all. Or anything at the track. Pretty sure Jake tested that combo also but can't remember for sure.
