Forgive the statement I'm about to make, as I understand that a cooler running car is definitely always a plus to decrease wear and heat induced stress, but I vaguely remember seeing that these motors run the most efficient at the hotter temps they see....

The GT's, Boss, and GT500's have 180* thermostats already.... Also, 180* refers to the closing temperature. Actual ECT reaches about 192-195* before opening again.

Why would I go 180 when I could go 170? Either way it's probably one of the better mods iv done considering it get upwards of 120 degrees outside here.

The Ford OEM # for the 2011-2014 is:

BR3Z-8575-A (Motorcraft RT-1208)

And is listed as a 190* thermostat

If you call Ford and try to get the part # on the ones you show, it will cross reference to the one I listed. Which is a 190*

So with that, that means the 180s are out there but to replace, you get a 190.

Thus us selling a 180* thermostat made by JET.

I got my 2nd thermostat straight from Ford. (I thought I had an issue with mine at the time). He pulled up both Part#'s for the Boss, and GT, and both were the same, and he said they were both listed as 180* units. I ordered one, and it was in fact 180*......

The V6 however, runs the 190* unit.....

What I am actually going to do is look into this because their is 2 different part #s saying 2 different *'s while 1 part # cross references the other.

With the old fox bodies it was always suggested to swap out to a 180 t-stat for power gains, etc etc, but is it really necessary on these cars? Especially if just going NA?

Just for giggles I did a google search for Motorcraft RT-1208. Depends on what web site you look at as to the temp of the thermostat. Some say 180, others 190. That picture is good though, pretty clearly says 180. Even if its 190, that's a long ways off from the first post here saying 209!

I know....I went through all this before I started looking for lower * thermostats. The numbers are screwed up everywhere....

A thermometer and a pot of hot water will solve all of this. Might break out some of my old chemistry equipment and shoot a quick vid.

Well I just did a little experiment. A stock 2012 thermostat starts to open at about 190 degrees Fahrenheit it was fully open at about 201 degrees Fahrenheit.

Does anyone have any before and after results of actual temps of the coolant? I understand that putting a cooler thermostat will open it sooner, but I've also read about not giving the coolant time to cool off in the radiator before the thermostat opens can actually result in hotter temps. I just put a KB on my '12 and would be interested in getting things just a little cooler underhood if it's a proven concept. I need DATA! :)
