2001 Cobra purchased Feb 1st, 2013 in San Jose, CA. Had 112k miles. Performance Red (2000 Cobra R color). 1 of 226. Build #3103. Previous owner couldn't tell me any history on the car and left it sit outside for the 2 years he owned it. Done alot to the car and Ill try my best to list most of it. Lets do this. (TON of pics lol)

Day 1

My old 99 GT in the back. Had to sell her for the cobra. Removed spoiler. Removed bama stickers. Shorty antenna.

Good tune up, wheel bearings and polished the exhaust. Not factory catback. Flowmaster tailpipes.

IMAG0325_zps66597bed.jpg

Dropping tranny 1st attempt. Sachs going in. Had pepboys resurfaced my flywheel. BIG mistake.

This little thing is a pita. Blew the cig fuse that powers it and I had a badass backfire going on lol.

Some paint correction before FFF 2013.

IMAG0445_zps0a460a11.jpg

Engine needed some attention..

IMAG0196_zps08675141.jpg

Dropped tranny again. Pepboys had resurfaced the flywheel un even. Car had a nasty vibration. Angrily got our refund and took the flywheel and new Stage 2 clutch balanced at my trusted machine shop. Installed with the Excedy TOB, again bad mistake.

IMAG0502_zps55061272.jpg

Car was getting too hot. This solved most of issues. Now I run a 90/10 mix and a 160F thermo.

IMAG0579_zpsbe66b755.jpg

Cut the Eibach Prokit springs. These springs suck btw

IMAG0763-1_zpse4bce9e6.jpg

Guages are water temp and a boost guage (??)

Slotted and drilled rotors, Gold calipers. Pre painted side scoops off AM.

IMAG4319_zps7ccf9ec7.jpg

After tapping 7k, fuel pump quit on me. After pushing it a mile, dropped irs, replaced pump and filter.

IMAG4401_zps64d2faf5.jpg

Valve covers pulled and painted wrinkle black, silver pack covers, wrinkle black plenum, silver iac and throttle body. And wasnt digging a yellow battery.

IMAG4468_zps72e0c1e2.jpg

Decided the pull the motor for a quick detail. Two months later I had pulled motor, tranny, rear end and gutted the interior.. :rolling:

It seems alot of 01s had teksids.. Remanufactured in 2003. I guess first owner blew with two years?

Rear end getting pulled. Complete FTB kit went in. Picked up some Bilsteins off a termi too.

Upon putting engine back in, we had bent the heater core tubes too much and they snapped. From start to finish of a heater core replacement took 1 day solo. Its easier than some say.

Engine back in. Winkle black everywhere.

nice build, but begs me to wonder why not just get an 03/04 cobra? you've spent a small fortune on the 01 to make it look like a terminator.

Its a nice ride for sure!

Actually liked the black FR setup better than the 17" saleens.

And damn that's a lot of work just to get the car clean!! lol I would be kicking myself pulling a motor just to clean up and not be building it!

Bought the car for 8, and put in maybe 3. Still have alot of wiggle room before im in terminator prices. Once I go boosted, its almost the same car anyways. And rarest hardtop cobra from 99-04. Another reason I dont want to give it up.

how big were your black fr500s?? car looks amazing!

18x9/10xs with 305s.

If you look at the pics from the car the day he got it, it already had a terminator front and rear bumper...so he actually did nothing at all to make it like a terminator? Small fortune?.... :read:

Conner, that was a nice read, although I've seen all this progress on instagram haha. Nice work

oh no disrespect to the op. i had an 01 cobra before my 03. i like this fellow did a ton of mods to it also. its unfortunate they have a bad rep 99-01s cause they really are nice rides. my 01 had a d1 procharger and was alot of fun to drive. good luck with yours!

Oh thats sweet!! Ive noticed most 03/04 owners previously had boosted 99/01s. Also at this point with 120k miles, its not worth much to others.

Went over the engine/rear end quick so heres a little more. Pulled it inorder to see the shape of everything, paint the timing cover and detail the engine bay really well. Also wanted to see what was up with the internals. For 119k miles, it was in great shape. Bought poly motor mounts which I had to modify to fit on a teksid. Broke both heater hoses and custom hoses just dont work. CJ has some. Temp guage was mechanical and got yanked off during removal. Ruined the guage, thats why I purchased the new one. And I was tired of looking at a broken boost guage.

Square pattern indicating Teksid.

Wrinkle black valve covers, coil pack covers, Matte black manifolds, harmonic balancer.

And I fixed those light spots btw.

Eventually repainted alternator and tensionor a metallic gray.

Rear end. Always wanted to do Bruce's kit. Even my NA 01 had terrible hop. 1st and 2nd were scary. Im suprised I never broke a leg. Kit removed it all. Still no traction but thats another issue lol.

After all that, upon startup I noticed coolant pouring from the lower HVAC "passage". Knew I had a big issue, haha. These little heater cores are expensive.. I was so determined to drive this thing, I got it done at idk 2-3am.

Awesome job. I have a soft spot for 2001 Cobras. I had a white/parchment 01 cobra coupe. Very rare too. I miss that car.
