For all the money this tuner has convinced you that you need to spend wouldnof thought he’d have his own

And who cares, project cars get project wheels until it’s time to run
I agree!

@Terminated_cobra_03, I wouldn't spend money (you probably don't have) on wheels that will be temporary until you decide what you really want. Use what you've already got for now. Just sayin!

OP, take this the right way. You are kind of all over the place on your goals and priorities. Develop a solid plan, calendar, and budget, and stick to it.
I blame that on my ADHD, I'm often indecisive and change my mind a lot. I am thinking of a hybrid street track build. Mostly stock interior. But has the ability to autocross, and do track days. but also drive to car shows and car meets. I want a fully working car that can be driven both on and off the streets.

It will be all one-off wiring. Almost F1-type bespoke. This also counts in tuning and dyno rental, wiring, and making everything work. Car is salvage certificate

What state issue issued the salvage certificate?

You mentioned it came from Florida and here we have a salvage title or a certificate of destruction. I am a former vehicle purchaser for wrecking yards and can say definitively that they are very different. A salvage title could be rebuilt, but a certificate of destruction can only be used as salvage and can never be tagged or operated on roadways again.

If its issued by another state it may be a different story, but it's certainly worth verifying before becoming too invested in the project.

Honestly, do yourself a favor here. Get rid of the headache now. No offense, but you are way over your head here. Buy a more complete project car that has an engine, trans, and interior already in it. Something to actually start with. Then you can take it apart, fix it, and change what you want and have a clue of how it actually is supposed to go together.

Take the mirrors off, sell them for $600.
Take the side skirts off, sell them for $600 if you have all 4 pieces. $400 if you don't.
Take the side scoops off, sell them for $100.
Take the IRS out of it, sell it for $800-1200. or rebuilt it and sell for more.
Take off the doors, sell them for $150-250 each,
Take off the sail panels and windows, sell them for $150-250 each,
Take the trunk off, sell it for $100.
Take anything else off the car worth anything and sell it. Brake calipers, gas tank etc.

Scrap the shell of the car for $200. Invest that 3K or so into a better starting project. You will learn somethings as you dis-assemble that car, that you can put to good use on the next project car.

It came from Florida but was given to me with a certificate of salvage out of Illinois, was not reregistered for obvious reasons. I know it will be a headache but I did not drag it 1k miles home to scrap it. I will save it. I want to see what I can do with the frame. If I can somehow go to a shop and assist in the prosses or if I rent the equipment and do the work with the guidance of a pro that will be the best option. When it comes to people saying part it out and scrap it. This will fall on deaf ears. I am too hard-headed. I don't see it as a headache I see it as a way to keep me occupied outside of school. Il keeps all of you updated as things move along.

I dont think anyone wishes that you fail or anything. It's just way bigger of a project than you seem to realize. 10s of thousands of dollars to get it back to correct and done right.
You're asking about wheels and tunes, you need to be asking about sourcing OEM parts, frame shops, body shops etc.
I dont think you ever answered me, did you find out if you can bring the car into school to do as a project?

Maybe set up a GoFundMe to help along the way, I bet you'll get lots of responses on that from the SVTP community.

From what I know that may be possible. I think I can work in a school car or I can bring in one of my cars, My IS300 or my Cobra.

I'm certainly not trying to discourage you from using it for experience. Only trying to caution you since you expressed wishes to drive the car. I just want you to be aware that it can never be titled, tagged, insured, or driven on public roadways after a certificate of destruction was issued.

The state will not for any reason allow those vehicles to be tagged and driven and no company will insure a vehicle that was issued one for.

You are saying a car with a salvage title can not be registered in Indiana?

pretty sure he means a certificate of destruction which means theyve determined it can never be rebuilt to a safe condition for use on public roads

I don't have a lot of knowledge but from what I understand, it can be turned from a salvage title or certificate, however it has to be inspected.

Motor Vehicle Dept.
North Hollywood, CA SALVAGE TITLE/CERTIFICATE ISSUED
But mine said Illinois so it has been transferred.

He said he has a Salvage Certificate. A CoD can still be issued?
the previous poster was asking him to clarify/telling him to double check if it was issued in Florida, which it wasn't. It sounds like something Florida does that may be different and people that don't know any better might get the two mixed up. He was just trying to make sure OP wasn't confused and about to put money into a car that could never be registered, if OP's info is correct then he's fine (apparently...beats me...im probably done with this thread).

I think I'm out too, but thanks for me helping clarify DSG.

I was specifically speaking about Florida previously. Salvage titles can be rebuilt and an inspection performed and are reissued as a rebuilt title after passing said inspection.

Certificates of destruction are issued for vehicles that are solely for scrap purposes and can not be titled, insured, or tagged again.

I'm only familiar with Florida since that's where I bought salvage, but I would certainly get a definitive answer from someone at motor vehicles of the applicable state before investing anymore than I was willing to throw away.

I believe someone said in the original sale thread that the salvage title has to be issued from the state that issued the salvage certificate.

I have no clue, just thought I read that in that thread

...if that's the case then... I am dragging that car back to California. But if not I think it's possible for Illinois, Ohio, or Indiana.
