Who cares. The vendor and manufacturer are selling a tool for off road racing vehicles. The customer's action is not their responsibikity.

Should Glock, Smith & Wesson, etc be sues for homicides? Should Rustoleum and Krylon be sued because some idiot is dumb enough to sniff paint?

Improper use of a product does not lean on the shoulders of a manufacturer.

I'm going to go use a hair dryer while taking a shower now. I will make sure to keep the breaker from flipping. Do you think I can sue the manufacturer of the hairdryer if I am electrocuted?

I’m not saying I agree with it but it was FAR too much of an “off-road use only” wink and a nudge situation.

Really I bet if they hadn’t bought Bully Dog SCT might not even be involved. If I remember correctly it’s all the coal rolling diesel dickheads that got the EPA’s attention to start with. Several other diesel programmers have already been smacked down

The federal government grabbing you by the balls is a whole lot different than joe blow consumer suing you

**** the epa and that regulation. It is ok if the government does it but not the little man. I remember being on a carrier and we just dump all our shit into the ocean; no big deal.

As far as the coal comment earlier, coal releases black carbon into the atmosphere as opposed to what cars emit.

Except when some pulls up to their local dyno shop in a street car and gets a tune that turns off a CEL. The EPA isn't going to allow SCT to claim ignorance. Hence the move to cloud based tuning. It allows SCT to have greater oversight of custom tuners.

This all stemmed from DPF delete tunes selling like crazy starting a decade ago. There's probably a dozen 6.4 Powerstrokes that are legitimate off-road only vehicles. How many delete turners and pipes (SCT used to sell "test" pipes) do you think SCT sold?

So its the coal rollers fault. If all them clowns hadn’t smoked out everyone we would not have this issue is what you are saying?

It's going to be up to the localities to enforce. Some counties already have sniff equipment set up around the DC beltway. Most set up on off ramps and if you don't pass the sniff test, it takes a picture of your tag. This technology has been around for years. This sucks though!

Everybody is SCT tuned lol. I’d watch how this unfolds and if goes south then I’d say get tuners and tunes before they are banned and just never update the tuners

What if Glock knew the customer was going to use the product to commit a crime.

SCT was sued for having can tunes on handheld devices that defeated emissions simply by plugging it in and loading a can tune. Custom tuning had nothing to do with any of it. Although now that SCT has been affected by it they are discussing whether or not to remove certain emissions related parameters from their custom tuning software but last I heard it hadn't been settled yet.

The real question here is will this eventually lead to a de facto ban of using cars with VINs as racecars? I know this is something that SEMA has been fight hard against.

While everyone who DOES race can opt to convert to a stand alone controller, could this eventually FORCE someone wanting to race a VINed car to use a stand alone? Will this lead to guys like us never being able to trailer our track prepped cars to the track with the factory ECU?

Whenever it comes to installing my headers, Ive always planned to get an off road H pipe and a catalyst equipped H pipe made. I sincerely hope that this doesn't jeopardize that.

Can Glock prove their assumption?

When I raced dragbikes, I ran in a Super Street class. My bike had to be registered with a tag, and it needed insurance in case a ride was required to prove the bike could make a 50 mile ride (that never happened). My bike was built for the track.

This same rule applies to many Pro Touring cars. They need to be 100% street legal, but the sanctioning organization does not take emissions into account. The cars are intended for racing.

All that any tuner can truly do is take the customer's word. I will say this as an automotive performance enthuisast; "Any legal ramifications need to be the full responsibility of the vehicle owner, not the manufacturer or vendor of a performance product".

I updated my SCT X4 a few months back. The ability to disable the rear O2 sensors was removed. I only noticed this when a friend mentioned it to me.

In reality, any modification made to change the performance of a vehicle also alters the vehicle away from the federal regulation stranglehold the government has placed on automotive manufacturers. Many times fuel mileage is decreased.

At this point in history I feel that we as Americans have allowed to government to have too much control. We the people have given up a lot of freedoms in the name of government regulation.

Without getting this overtly political, I completely agree with you.

I can get around a rear o2 check engine light easily enough. Its the ability to convert to a full return system to run ethanol (E50-E85) that worries me. The irony is that ethanol is burns waaayyyyy cleaner than gas/E10.
