It seems the M3 to M4 dropped some weight, I would think the Mustang GT with IRS would be able to find some weight to cut. Perhaps they are saving that for a higher trim?
More gears allow better acceleration due to better torque multiplication through the gears. Also allows better gas mileage with better gear selection through a variety of speeds.I was under the impression many gears were used to keep a small engine in its power band. Thats why Ford and Chevy made a joint venture on their 10 speed auto that will be paired to tiny 1.4 - 1.6L engines so they dont completely suck as cars. Granted, i suppose the same logic could be applied to fuel savings.
