The thermostat only matters in how it affects oil tempuratures. Bob The Oil Guy and experts in engine wear are all saying the same thing - your oil temp must reach 212 degrees to optimally reduce contaminants. That's ENGINE OIL TEMP. This is the number we should all be concerned with. I hope we want our engines to last.

Correct, because that's the boiling point of water. Even if the cooling system has a cooler thermostat in it, long drives will still achieve oil temps greater than 212*F. However, during the winter months, this can present a problem in cold climates. If your oil never achieves temps hot enough to boil off contaminants, the detergent additives will be working overtime trying to rid them. This will shorten the effective duration use of any engine lubricant.

During the summer months in the south, not a problem. In south Florida year round....not a problem.

A thermostat is not an upgrade for more power, but rather cooler and more stable engine temps under the hood. These cars use wideband's and really never go into a closed loop type system vs previous models. The cooler the cylinder temps from lower operating temps, the more timing the car will be able run without detonation within reason.

But this could reduce mpg.

I have a virtually stock 5.0, but I have noticed it seems sluggish when it's really hot here in Florida. On a cool morning the car feels like a completely different animal. Do you guys think this will help?

No!

Colder air is more dense which equals more power.

i smell snake oil....in a NA application this is pointless. ive tested this in the past, no difference in power, or really in at speed coolant temps.

for FI cars, this may have some application, but ive never seen anyone go below 170.

a retune might be needed, as with all tunes the fans come on at 185-195*. you may run into a situation where the aux fans end up running non stop as the engine heats up and cools off to fast. 20* can be dropped from stop light to stop light.

IMHO use $34 for 92 octane.

Same thoughts here.

The stat is going to open up a minute earlier with the end result being the same engine temps. Your radiator and fans deal with engine temps. End of.

Got mine installed today. Took it for a 20min drive with no cel's coming on, didn't think there would be any. The stock tstat would keep the temp gauge between 12 and 1 o'clock. Now it stays between 11 and 12 o'clock. Even though the stock tstat is rated at 180o my ect's would consistently be around 210o. So this new tstat will open sooner and probably keep them at 190-200. Took me all of 15 min.

Note: the housing you want to take off is the one angled down at roughly 4-5 o'clock. Not the one directly off the block, and ford uses an o'ring instead of a paper gasket so make sure you don't lose it.

Mine runs better hot. Weirdest thing I have ever seen. I can cool it down, make a pass, hot lap it and it always runs better. Best ET car has was right off the street.

Read up on thermodynamic efficiency. It's a little complicated but will help you understand.

That is the average we have been seeing this summer while testing. But a 20* change is a huge difference and the cars are still behaving very well. Just like on the older years, they help!

Same here and back to back runs on the dyno yields better power than letting it cool down.
I was thinking that being warmer the oil is thinner which would help if the crank is turning in oil........I dunno.
