I believe he was asking, if you don't modify it, what should you do once warranty is done? Probably in reference to the "well if you are stock and it goes just warranty it" talk.

What is the best choice to avoid it after the warranty is done? Get it tuned to avoid the lean condition?

Ah I see. Yeah if your stock its not a problem under 60k miles.

Very easily put, the lean programming used from Ford is fine on an unmodded car, that's how it was designed around.

If you start modding, make sure you get a reputable tune. Even then, a good tune is no safety net from a bad tank of gas, or poor install of parts contributing to an engine failure.

Gotcha. I was just curious since people mentioned some stock cars have run into it. I haven't tried to dig too deep, I dont plan on modding my car for a long time so I just wasn't sure how much risk there was. I'm assuming people who had the issues while stock were beating the piss out of their cars?

Shaun,

Thanks for posting all of that information. I had a '11 5.0 back in 2011 that had the #8 issue and I was SOL. This was back when it first started coming around. I now have a different 5.0 and have been skeptical to get a tune again. I will be going with Bama (for the warranty since im paranoid, and its driving distance from me) when I get around to doing this. I feel better about it now.

Cheers,

Dan

Sometimes education of the customer base is the best way to address issues and fears like this.
BAMA is a great choice as they do honor their engine warranty.
Steeda is also a great choice (to my knowledge they have not lost any engines to this issue). And of course others as well.

Fear of custom tuning does non of us any good. That is why I give the information to anybody that asks. IMO it's critical to put this link of tunes and the #8 to bed. We can do that by propey resolving the issue via custom tuning.

TEC definately has a good rep , but I thought they were LS specialists...never heard them mentioned by Ford owners.

And THIS folks, along with unbelievable PERSONAL customer service is EXACTLY why my car is running a tune by Shaun@AED

I've tried others and believe me, Shaun's CUSTOMER SERVICE alone is lightyears ahead of the competition.:kaboom::beer:

Is it?
I'll have to go back and check. If I'm wrong, I certainly do apologize but that still doesn't detract from the point I was trying to make.

***Edit
Yep...60K...my mistake.

100k warranty is cheap. Go trade it in on a dart.

The #8 issue is why I'm the fence about tuning my car. Most of these horror stories are from owners with tunes on their vehicle. I got some great info from this thread; especially about the lean condition at WOT with factory tune. I'm curious if there have been #8 failures with a completely stock vehicle?

so in otherwords... you had a BBR tune and than you installed a TB and drove around with it un-tuned for a couple weeks than the car blew up? Is that the reason for #8 blowing up? Or does not tuning the TB have nothing to do with it ?

no his # 8 popped because he drove around for weeks with the car down on power and puffing white smoke.

:nono: No, he drove around for weeks with it puffing white smoke HOPING it was "a no big deal" when all along #8 was already toast.

You don't have to retune for the TB he had

so something just dawned on me, this whole lean AFR at WOT thing.

I have dual aero forces set to flash if i get above 12.2 AFR at WOT. as long as i monitor that, aren't i "safe"?

It would certainly help, this may not be the only contributing factor though.
