Great post Heinz. I like watching your shelby runs on Youtube

FWIW...i have to agree that a stick car is still alot more fun and relies solely on the driver input and capability to get the best out of it.....i live raping gears in my shelby and something has to be said about going fast in a stick car...i know when i broke into the 9's with my gt500 i earned alot of respect simply because tou dont see many 9 sec rides where people are bangin their own gears...my auto is alot if fun simply because its crazy consistant...i know the worst it can do is a 10.0 and the best will be 9.80's...the fun in the auto is all off the line and in the 1-2 shift...after that it is boring in all honesty...it is however alot if fun to beat cars with more hp and a manual trans...i know at my local track i get a ton of people walking up to me after they see me rip off a slow looking non violent 9 sec pass....my shelby is violent...it gets my adrenaline going and it feels like your on the edge...the auto feels like im out on the freeway in a hurry to make it to the supermarket...its tame in every way compared to my shelby yet with nearly 200+ less hp is really close to running the same numbers...i think to each their own...ive owned 2 mt82 11+ 5.0's and for me the moment i went out in a well tuned n/A auto i was sold immediately....the 13+ with the sport mode is as close to a manual car as you can get and its Lot of fun being able to up and down shift on command...anyway just thought id throw out my perspective having owned both a manual and auto 5.0...

Your attitude is why the "manual police" even say anything. It's fine to have an opinion, but you are not very accepting of other peoples opinions :nono: You are the epitome of opinionated. The manual guys (99%) admit that the auto is faster, and more consistent, but you just can't admit that just maybe some people like shifting more.... I'm out

PS- I would LOVE to see what these auto guys would be saying if the 5.0 came with a good manual and the camaro had an auto that was beating them. I bet they would be arguing how "boring" an auto is, and that it takes "no skill" to go fast in them.... just a thought

X2...Its the same 2 people attacking the mt82 everytime.

Wow, chill man. It's just our opinions, and funnily enough. My last real race at the track was against a built ls Camaro, auto, launching with a Trans break. My consistency on my manual beat him. I ran my second fastest time against him, and he blew the launch and ended up running a middle of the road (for him) 11.7ish. It was a fun race, and according to you, I should have lost before it even began :)

Relax lol, i wonder why you guys feel touched about the "manual police"
I'm not knocking on the MT82. Have I not said multiple times that is better than a T56 (IMO), that it hasn't given me a lot of trouble, etc... and i respect if that's what you guys like... I was the same way about manuals, i even bought my mustang with a manual first. I still have other manual cars at the house... i just think that for my goals, and for what I like, the automatic makes way more sense. As far as being fun or not, that's relative. What some people call fun, some others might consider boring. Traffic around here is pretty bad, and sitting in bumper to bumper traffic with the manual was an annoyance also... so i don't find the manual being more fun... but again that's PERSONAL PREFERENCE.

If you had just said that stuff to begin with, nobody would've been defensive or said anything to you at all. Don't act now like that's all you were saying and we're overreacting.

I have said it several times (not on this particular thread).
Do i need to save that comment, and then paste it everytime before I disagree with you on a transmission-related topic? lol

After 20 years of manual shifting, the only down side to my A6 so far is my wife slapping the crap out of me for using the select shift. She says "There's nothing sexy about shifting an automatic yourself!"

So, "D" only when she's in the car ;)

Nope, just stick to helping the op make an educated choice. Not bagging on m6 cars, you make it sound like we shouldn't even race. I can tell you that I'm not losing to cars making 200 less horse power :)

Something else to think about. A good tuner can maximize your shift points and the speed of the shifts. My tuner did great things with my buddy's auto 2011 GT.

Someone make a .gif of the 6R80 humping the MT82.

Better yet, only the transmissions going down the 1/4 mile, with the auto winning, while the manual struggles for traction.

I love everything about this post. Specially the part where the auto is like driving to the supermarket in a hurry. I love my M6 for the fact it does have that thrill, requires driver skill and at the end of the day not everyone drives their stang in a straight line...some of us drive the twisties and an auto for driving that way is boring and definitely not as fast.

Having owned my car well over 2 years and only for the first time in my life going to a drag strip friday, because that style of racing means that little to me. I am only going now to make a few people I know look like chumps. Hell in the end I probably will look like a chump. I just don't care.

I find it more fun to drive twisting roads with a Suburu WRX STI behind me struggling to keep up and have him finally catch up and go "WTF is that, sure ain't a mustang!" than to go to a drag track and get destroyed because it takes 3X+ as much money to go fast in a straight line than through corners.

I have to say that I love shifting. With the auto cars you know the car is going to make each shift and little goes into the actual driving part once the launch is done. That's cool if you are on the set it and forget mode being you want repeatable time slips. Me personally I love pushing myself to get better. That spills over into my cars from how I view life. I am all about doing it myself. I don't want to rely on the car to do the work. Yea A6's are fast, can handle the power, and worry free on gears, but I just see it as lame giving up control and going for the ride. Once again the fastest cars are prob going to be the A6's, but I love banging gears and love having a challenge each pass once I stage in my lane.

My mt-82 is 3 years old now and its my DD with 0 issues. Stock shifter. Stock fluid, stock lines. Auto crossed and drag raced, OP drive both, get what you are comfortable with. If your name is Dom and you live your life a quarter mile at a time, you might want an auto, if you have hams for fists, get an auto, I love my m6 I defend its place in this car because I love it, this car is visceral , its meant to connect to your soul, the auto never did, maybe if Ferrari installed a paddle shift system i'd think about it.. but they bore me.. and I've had 3 women ask me to teach them to drive a stick. Never had a girl ask me how to click to (D) now I'm not saying driving an auto is like riding a Harley with training wheels ... well maybe I am but last time I checked there was no hello kitty edition Harley... I actually feel sorry for the auto owners, they must be missing that part of themselves that allows them to truly connect to their cars... but to each their own.. drive both. Get what you like and be truthful with your self 3 months down the road and tell us
