35% side windows and 20% rear....
I own a tint shop and have 15% all around right now but am about to strip it and put 5% on it.
I personally think the 5% is too dark but it just looks too good. Since I don't drive the car often I'm putting the 5% on but in my truck I drive daily it has 15% which I think is perfect
My factory windows were like an 80% when my buddy tested them, we threw 20% over everything, 50% on the whole windshield. The windshield tested 42% after that, and the sides like 12%. I think our cars are factory uv tinted/burned in the glass or something.
My rear window measure like 11% and I think it's because the defroster strips in some way absorb light a little. No clue really.
I know my 20+50 combo was noticeably darker than my buddies 20+50 combo on a 1990 notchback. Everyone thinks I have 10% tint.
Also, my car wasn't previously tinted, my buddy runs a tint shop and found no previous tint on the windows or residue build up.
I didn't do a strip, but I have the black running pony banner windshield so it does a similar job.
Night driving is a little sketchy. Not too bad, but dark.
All modern vehicles some with tint from the factory. it isn't much but it WILL affect any readings taken off your windows. so generally speaking if you are trying to stay within the law you should leave a 5% margin between what you put on and what the law allows.
very few places allow tint on the windshield I personally would not put any on mine. you are just giving the cops another reason to stop you. to those who will pipe up and say "I have mine tinted and haven't been stopped" .. good for you. you have been lucky. doesn't mean it is a good idea.
I have 10% on my back windows 30% the rest of the way around. Texas passed a law allowing 20% a few years ago and when I get mine redone I will go with the 20% on the front and side windows but nothing on the windshield other than the ASI stripe
Are you sure it is 20%? Just did a quick check on-line, and all I find for Texas is no lower than 25% for the front windows. I just had my windows re-tinted a few weeks ago, and I was told the legal limit for the front doors is 25% in Texas. I was recommended 30% on the doors, maybe to compensate for the factory tinted glass, and I went with 20% on the small side windows and 5% on the rear window. There is a very light tint on the front windshield that was already on the car when I bought it (think it is something like 80-90%), but I removed the 5% stripe on the front windshield 'cos it was pass the ASI line (not legal) and in my line of sight. I also prefer no striped tint on the front windshield, and I didn't even notice the tinted front windshield on my car 'til the guy that tinted my car pointed it out to me.
I don't know where all of you get your tint numbers from. You cannot just pick 22% or something like that.
I have only ever seen 50%, 35%, 20%, and 5%. All of your factory windows come with 5-10% already on them. So if you get pulled over and the cops do scan it, you will get a reading of say 13%, which means you added 20% tint. I tint my own vehicles and have been stopped for it on my DD with 20% tint. You pay to play.
As for a safety aspect. Its your responsibility to look before pulling out. Tint or no tint. I put my windows down at night at see when pulling out or whatnot.
My buddy has 15% and hes never had a problem. I think it also depends on the vehicle. If i have some beat old escort tinted out, id probably get hit everyday with a ticket.FYI: In NY, if you tint between 5% to 15% you're going to have problems with the law enforcement!! ...just saying
