If you are on utility battery power, will they let you charge your EV?

The other problem with grid connected battery power is the inverters and their design. Typically very high switching frequencies (like greater than 2 kHz). These can have negative interactions with other loads on the distribution circuits and cause lots of problems for large end-users. These problems are extraordinarily hard to model and predict because they are so dynamic. Ask me how I know...

The more crap we connect to our grid that is rapidly switched (power supplies, battery chargers, etc.) the more issues we will see. Residential consumers will notice shortened life of appliances, computer power supply, and UPS's within their house. Even with very clever topology the fact is these are solid state (digital) circuits supplying power from the grid connected batteries (and solar and some wind turbines). This source of power can never truly replicate analog power coming from a generator. Listen to a vinyl record and then a low sample rate digital recording for an example. The digital recording will sound like ass compared to the pure analog vinyl.

Ford now being able to use the Tesla charging stations is a game changer for ford IMO…. It is much needed for them to have a chance .

the EV fires give off “copious amounts of toxic chemical gasses,” and current personal protective equipment (PPE) hasn’t been designed to protect firefighters from the types of gasses their exposed to when responding to these kinds of fires.

Among those chemicals, Munsey said, is hydrogen fluorine. According to the CDC, breathing the acid can damage lung tissue and cause swelling and fluid accumulation in the lungs.

Any thoughts on Fisker

I'd be surprised if they stay in business for another year. They've already gone bankrupt once and they really haven't broken through with anything special, not like Rivian and Lucid have been able to do to compete against Tesla. I see quite a few Rivians and Lucids around here, but the only Fiskers I've seen is their very first model.

I watched a review on Fisker's new SUV and it had some weird features and functions, many of which made no sense. It came off like the company had no idea what they were doing and knew nothing about building vehicles. Like for instance, there's a 500 use limit on launches I believe it was, and there is a counter that let's you know how many you have left. If you have to include that in your vehicle then you need to change whatever it is that is making a counter necessary.

They won't stop unless made to stop.

Deaths from fossil fuel emissions higher than previously thought
More than 8 million people died in 2018 from fossil fuel pollution, significantly higher than previous research suggested, according to new research from Harvard University, in collaboration with the University of Birmingham, the University of Leicester and University College London. Researchers estimated that exposure to particulate matter from fossil fuel emissions accounted for 18 percent of total global deaths in 2018 — a little less than 1 out of 5.
“Our study adds to the mounting evidence that air pollution from ongoing dependence on fossil fuels is detrimental to global health,” said Marais. “We can’t in good conscience continue to rely on fossil fuels, when we know that there are such severe effects on health and viable, cleaner alternatives.”

That is so ridiculously stupid. Complete bullshit.

Crickets from the safety agencies, why you ask? Because there is no recall that can fix a fact of EV life, the lithium battery. The only solution would be to BAN them from use in cars !!!!!!

Speaking of fires, Tesla data shows at least 20 fatalities related to fire, and many more injuries. (Update January 2023: now 53 fatalities, double the Ford Pinto).

…”if Tesla were an average car, we would have expected 0.23 Tesla fire deaths in 2016, 0.35 in 2017, 0.45 deaths in 2018, and 0.16 deaths in 1Q 2019,” [a financial analyst] wrote. That’s a total of 1.19 fire deaths over three years. Business Insider has counted at least 20 reported incidents of Teslas catching on fire since 2013 and five deaths in the past 14 months.

Ive noticed several people now (including electrical engineers) only focus on the current draw a charger pulls when attempting to rationalize an evs efficiency over ICE. This is an extremely easy counter to that arguement, ask them what units they are charged for on their electric bill and to compare again. How do they advertise consumption specs for home chargers to consumers???

I was almost thinking maybe this guy was wrong because I've never heard that comparison made before but it seems like a nail in the coffin for EVs. Just by what he said I can't imagine many people still saying it's feasible.
