This is the Hyundai RM19, caught while testing for the first time in Germany.

Hyundai's N performance division has been expanding by creating tuned versions of the company’s existing vehicles, but it has plans to make a bespoke sports car. It’s been spotted testing a modified Veloster N on the Nürburgring that’s mid-engined and reportedly a precursor to the division’s dedicated car.

Little other information is known about the car itself, but considering the Veloster prototype, it’s expected to be a compact sports car, possibly in the vein of a Porsche 718 Boxster/Cayman. Power is likely to be delivered by a turbocharged four-cylinder, making rear-wheel-drive a possibility. Global sales are expected for the vehicle, too.

Expect a concept version of the RM19 in the near future, but a timeline for a production version has yet to be determined.

Holy shit. Pretty big news here!

Their current Veloster N is a bad little bitch. I cant imagine how exciting that platform would be mid engine.

    Wow!

I still hear people talk bad about Hyundai/Kia but I have spent enough time around them and in them to know they are not a joke of a brand anymore. They were the tiny cheap company Honda, Toyota, and Nissan were at one point too but they are much much different now and have the resources to compete with the big boys.

Build quality on these cars has gone through the roof, and the 10 year warranties don't hurt either...
The Turbo motors respond to tuning exactly as you'd hope. Good stuff.
The Hyundai 5.0 was a beast too...but I think they have discontinued it.

They have come a hell of a long way, but due to their history of being cheap econo boxes it will take a while for peoples thoughts to change regarding the brands.

We looked at an Elantra GT N line and it seemed pretty soft and definitely didn't seem to have the power of a focus ST but I also didn't get to drive because it was for my wife.

Is the Veloster a bit more aggressive than the Elantra? If the Elantra is that comfortable and as capable as a FoST, that's going to knock itself into the GTI category.

Never driven or been in an elantra. How Id compare the Veloster N vs the ST is very similar specs but for starters, the brakes work.. And best of all is the suspension and lsd. The focus will understeer and spin on every corner exit and the N is just far more planted. Its very Type R like minus some power. Ive driven all 3 on track and the ST sadly isnt even comparable but I still love it as a DD where that stuff doesnt matter.

The veloster N is very appealing. My FiST is fun as hell to drive, but I'm sure the veloster is better built.

These brands really have come a long way. I used to sell Kia back in 04/05 and they were crap boxes. I’ve been in collision repair since and over the years watching their quality go up has been impressive.

With the recent sales figures of the Hyundai 1.6/2.0 turbo cars, has this piqued the interest of tuning companies to start looking into offering support of these vehicles?

I know alot of people are asking but it seems like no one wants to tackle the ECU. Would love to hear from a large tuning company about this and why/why not?

The rest of the world gets the I30 N which is an Elantra with the Veloster N's 275hp turbocharged 2.0L. Here we get the N-line which is everything but the brakes, suspension and engine. I am itching for a replacement for my Fiesta ST and the I30N would be the vehicle i would buy. I drove the Veloster N in both Performance Pack and non-performance pack and the PP package car was significantly more involving. It was a pleasure to drive and felt just as playful as my Fiesta ST but with a ton more power. The LSD and active exhaust is also very apparent versus the non-PP car.

If they bring the I30N here i will be first in line. Crossing my fingers for a 2021 MY if the Veloster N sells enough.

    HPt supports the 1.6T Velosters.
There are tuning solutions for the 2.0Ts out there.
