"If you're not into street racing, why would you need that?" Riverside Police Traffic Sergeant Skip Showalter asked an enthusiast during a similar crackdown last year. "Why would you want more power going to your car?"

Alot of people like myself do things to their cars to race legally at a race track? BTW any californians want to chime in and let us know what "engine modification" actually means according to the law.

Hope those folks can afford some good representation out there, sounds like they have a pretty good case...Now, if it's all about running o/r pipes and having 1% tint, well...uh...

This irritates me, I attend atleast 4 "car enthusiast" meetings a month in two different clubs. This is rediculous, although having 150 cars at a meet like this is pretty impressive.

an engine modification is completely illegal in most states.. anything that was not factory installed on your vehicle can be considered illegal in the state of louisiana

Lots of Cali haters. But I hate to break it to you. Ignorance is country wide. And there are worse states out there than California doing this. I guess my biggest gripe about it there was nthing "out of the ordinary" about what happened. Any car meet I go to with more than 10 to 15 cars I pretty much expect a LEO to show up sooner or later. Its common sense. Those that showed up with illegal stuff done to their cars should've expected being cited. Whats the difference it getting cited on the street as opposed the the meet? You just made it easier. My car is modified (within the laws word) I've yet to receive a ticket for modifications. Even after attending good sized car meets. There are quite a few rumors in regards to popping your hood upon request in California anyway. I don't know all if any of the stipulations behind it. Some say suspicion others say they need a primary reason. I don't know for sure. But this happens in every state.

I am not suprised. This type crack downs been happening around here for quite a while now. To make things worse they now have portable dyno sniffers. They set up "DUI" road block's to check for drunk drivers and registration violations & when they see a possibly "illegally moddified" vehicle they pull you aside, mount your car on the sniffer and if it doesn't pass visual/sniffer they either give you a ticket/fine or impound your car.
