Justin finished this thread up nicely. The 5.ohs in his stable are the fastest cars at VMP. The 2011 5.0 set records for stockish builds a couple of years ago. I mean, who runs 10.0 flat on so little mods, stock everything? Then later, getting better at 9.70's @ 140 mph.

GM could never brag about that.

There is just something about owning a cobra. Its the elite group no matter what body style it is. Then again if you want to go auto then there simply is no choice and the new auto is a beast.

I have driven a bone stock 2010 GT500, a bone stock 2012 GT500, & a bone stock 2013 GT500 vert that we just finished a few mods on. I also own a 2013 boss ls. My boss is as fast as the 2010 GT500 in my opinion; the 2010 feels very nose heavy. The 2012 was lighter feeling, which in turn makes it feel faster. The 2013 is where its at though. A super amazing car. But I will say this... None of them could even come close to competing with the boss from a suspension point of view.

My opinion, if it doesn't have an aluminum block, don't get it. Get a 2011-2012 GT500 & do a TVS swap on it & you'll be hauling the mail.

Ok, so I had an vmp tvs ' ed 800rwhp 07 GT500 since 07, I recently sold it, awesome car for its era. But with all the drawbacks mentioned.

My wife's 11 GT Auto with a TVS, stupid fast and light, I still don't think anyone has gone as fast as is with a stock engine and stock trans down to the converter, 9.79 @ 140.

I got my 12 boss over two years ago, light and quick up to about 80, but slow after that, doesn't pull like a Shelby. I fixed that with a VMP TVS kit. Now, Fing all cake, you can have it and eat it up in the corners AND straights. The trans is probably the only bad thing but mine has not gone south yet.

Our 13 gt500, bad Fricking arse car all around, 680-700rwhp with cats/stock exhaust and 21-22mpg on a cross country trip to MI. Being a tuner /fabricator /business owner I can appreciate all the engineering ford packed into this car, heck, some of the engineers that worked on trinity do work for me too, they are the best. It handles better than a boss and brakes like mad.

I tell people you buy a GT500 because you want, need, or must have the best flagship mustang.

You buy a 5.0 because you don't want to blow the bank account and want to suprise the heck out of people. The 5oh is actually a better engine.

Thanks for the info Justin I really appreciate it! If I pick up the 2012 GT this week I will be in touch with you for a blower that day.

If you cant swing a 13+ gt500, then go with a 13+ GT. Better looking than an 11-12 GT/GT500 and revised/better pistons than a 11-12 GT. Mine with a Roush TVS seeing only 10psi and a 3.31 gear is an absolute blast. Recaro's and brembo's are a must too. All this for less than 40k (new car including blower) and you have a pretty competent DD/track warrior.

2010 500s look and handle better but still have the weight.

I forgot to mention, an 11 - 12 gt500 is a better geared and lighter car than a 13 gt500, and with a tvs its also faster.

Looks are subjective but Im not sure a 2010 gt500 handles better than an 11+ Gt brembo car. Maybe Im wrong.

How is an 11/12 gt500 better geared? Maybe it depends on your intent with the car. But any chance you want to use that power on the street a 3.31 car is better IMO. Especially on the interstate from a roll, if youre into that.

The 5.0>5.4 anyday :D

I thought about buying a used 2009 GT500 for about the same price I got my 2011 5.0 for back in the day. Never test drove one, just thought about it. I decided I wanted a new car and not a GT500 with 30K miles that by now would be near 60K and only going up.

I drove one about a year later, and honestly compared to my car that had minor work done at that time, while the GT500 at the time was a tad faster, it felt extremely clumsy and I wasn't that impressed.

The person above me who said owing the Cobra is "elite". That's kinda funny, because the car crowd I run around with make fun of the GT500, pointing out its downfalls that I previously noted.

I should know, I had one, and they rubbed salt in my wound every chance they got.

True story! That's how I feel about it. If you must buy a GT500, do not buy anything older than 2011. You want the aluminum block for weight savings.

I was completely happy with my 2014 5.0 until I took a ride in a 2014 gt500 last weekend. Now I need one. Cant speak on the 2012 and earlier year gt500 though. From what I hear they're not nearly as impressive so a 5.0 might be the better choice.

The instant torque hit is addictive....until you are losing street races due to it. Then it starts to tick you off from tire spin in 1st and 2nd.

OP, ask how many people here have owned an iron block GT500, then bought a new 5.0, instead of another GT500. For the record, my 2009 GT500 was almost 700 RWHP.

Those are who you should listen to. Why?

14 mpg around the city grandma driving, that's why.

Feels like a tank in the corners, that's why.

While racing: lesser cars are performing the same, equal power cars are beating you, that's why.

C6 Z06 with heads/cam/intake/tune are stomping mud holes in your ass. That's why!

No matter how optimized the suspension is, you are spinning in first and second gear on the street, that's why.

You are asking challengers to give you 60 mph ricer rolls to compete, that's why.

If you are a drag or dig racer, the auto in the new 5.0 is NO joke, that's why.

If you are a roll street racer, the auto with select shift is NO joke, that's why.

No offense, but anyone who wants an iron block 2007-2010 GT500 instead of the 5.0 is ignorant to the fact. I guarantee you, my 2014 GT with an 11:1 Aluminator, twin turbos, and return style fuel system is going to smoke 98% of every GT500 on the street. That's why!

 Awesome post. I was between the same two cars and chose the Coyote for the above reasons.

2013+ 5.0 Auto + premium and don't ever look at another mustang.
The only other mustang i would consider getting would be a 13+ GT500 but that's on a whole other price range. I wouldn't settle for 12/11/10/09 GT500 etc.
Love the technology on these motors, lighter car, solid rear axle, bad ass transmission, recaros, better MPGs... and so on...

Thanks for all the posts guys. I really appreciate it. Making some very valid points and I am actually leaning toward the 5.0 right now.

If your not hung up on exclusivity, status, etc., a fully equipped supercharged GT is a pretty good alternative.
Power, creature comforts, stealth and lower cost were some of the reasons behind my decision to go this route.
And a double bonus for those that prefer the automatic.

Ended up pulling the trigger on the 2012 GT. Very happy with this car. Here are the pics before cleanup at the dealership where I work. Ended up getting it much cheaper also than the sticker price as they were about to,send it to auction. So by saving on the fees for transport and auction they passed those savings on to me.

Ready to order a blower for it now within the next day or so.
