I am picking up my CCW this evening but I am torn between a 9mm or a .40; what are your thoughts and experiences?

Thanks in advance for your help!

I personally prefer .45 but they all (9mm, 40, 10mm And .45) will be effective and are great rounds for personal protection.

Good luck and let us know what you go with.

My PM9 is a dream to carry. This whole "oh the .45 is better if you want to stop someone" is stupid. News flash guys, if I hit you with a .380 or a .50 in the chest I bet you won't have any fight left in you, put a second well placed round on target and the threat is over....

- I am going with the Beretta PX4 Subcompact. I already own the full-size .45 and it is one of the nicest pistols I have ever shot. Additionally, at $519 it's very hard to beat!

- I agree to a point but after reading through a few posts in the Gun Porn section I am leaning more towards .40

Thanks for your help!

I'm a fan of .40, but it does seem that in a pinch, 9mm is easier to find.

I have a PX4 myself, and I love it. Mine's a .40 Compact. I considered a subcompact, but it doesn't have the rotating barrel and it was still a bit too big for me to conceal carry (I'm a small 5'8" dude). I'm looking forward to trying out the new .380 Pico CCW pistol that they just unveiled this week.

I carry a Glock 23 in the winter(.40) and is also a nice gun to carry, my PM9 stays hidden in cargo shorts and a tee shirt and that is a HUGE plus for me. Of course a .40 is "nicer" but a concealed weapon is to put rounds out and STOP the threat, not for digging in and getting in a gun battle. All your choice, I just like the size and weight for me. You shoot 100 people with both rounds once in the chest and I bet all 100 will not want to be in that battle any longer. Either pick you will be happy, just remember you still want a gun you can hide..

I really hope you were not saying that in response to my comment.

There's an E.R's doctor's lecture comparing various rounds effects on the body on Youtube. Watch it and your decision will become clear.

The Beretta PX4 Subcompact .40 and 9mm are the exact same size and weight, unloaded of course.

I also would never keep a gun in my shorts and have already purchased a Crossbreed IWB holster.

Not necessarily. There are many examples out there where this was not the case.

I don't really like the .40 personally. I think it has more recoil than a .45 and not near as much stopping power. The .45 is the ideal personal, short range defense round IMO. Slow moving big bullet ftw.

9mm or .40 I carry both depending on the day. I would rather have capacity over a slightly larger round though

I carry a glock 27 most days which is .40 but when it's cooler out or I have normal pants on I prefer the glock 20 in 10mm.

I carried .45 for awhile but never saw the huge deal with it.any round properly placed will stop a person.ultimately pick the round you shoot best with because that's what matters most

I carry a XDS. Perfect gun for conceal carry IMO.
Ill be getting the 9mm version next month when it's released for my girl.

Any round properly placed will do that of course. But I don't want to have to rely on that in a situation. Give me the biggest bullet I can carry so I can stop an attacker without having to worry about the perfect spot.

Are they really going to actually release it next month? I have been waiting what seems like forever.
