I knew a speeding ticket was likely inevitable but not a week and a half into having the '03...so I am running late for work and after pulling out into quick moving traffic next thing I know I'm getting a ticket for 88 in a 45. That's excessive and a reckless in the same stop. My question here is how in the world do guys dd their Cobra's and keep their licenses? I felt pretty foolish :nonono:

Any radar/laser detector suggestions??

Oh I am also a Super Speeder in the state of GA now:cuss:

self control and maturity. how old are you? 88 in a 45 is pretty bad even if you are running late. even by doing 88 in a 45 how much time are you really saving on your commute? a minute or two at most? Is it really worth it?

a radar/laser detector isn't going to help you when you're doing 88 in a 45.

Radar detectors may help from time to time, but you cannot completely depend on them. In my area, most law enforcement will not even activate their radar or laser until you are within range, so even with a detector, your sh*t out of luck.
Knowing the area and where law enforcement likes to set up, along with constantly watching for them improves your chances. If you speed a lot, expect to eventually pay for it.

I don't even go 88 in a 65... why the hell are you doing that in a 45?
If your foot isn't planted then it's not worth the speeding ticket

I turn a young 29 next month, as for maturity I've always been a clown (not in a douchie way imo). I imagine I'm not the first Cobra owner with the blue lights behind him and assuredly won't be the last. Safe to say very expensive lesson will be learned here, I need to find my way to a road coarse not too far away...

I would assume your license will he revoked?

In my state that would be an automatic loss of license.

When owning these cars cruise control needs to become your best friend. Also after a few weeks of owning it you get used to the power and not putting your foot down all the time.

You got clocked @ a hairs breath under 90 mph in a 45

If this was on a country road shame on you! If this was on a busy street you better "bend over" cuz the judge is not going to like you :fm:

Dumb move on your part but the fact you fessed-up to your mistake even using the term "foolish" to describe your actions is the road to redemption!

Now, get a good lawyer, tell everyone you meet how much of a :smmon: you were and mean it and keep getting your trial delayed. You might get away with just a very expensive haircut and a smaller infraction.

BTW: don't let anyone with a Terminator tell you they drive 100% within the law. Only people who drive a Prius do that.

Good luck

If you gonna DD it, you got 3 options:

A) Cut you right foot off.
B) Drive at the posted speed limit in a fast car and look stupid
C) Add tickets to you list of future mods funds.

Good luck

I just looked that up -- $200 isn't bad at all compared to how we get bent over out here for those speeds. I have yet to get pulled over out here, ever (now watch, I'll get nailed) but it would be almost twice as much from the pricing I've seen. Just take it easy and as part of your normal self-defensive driving techniques, take time to look for LEO too.

I've had that habit for many years, started after reading a great Car and Driver article years ago that listed things like checking on- and off-ramps, taking note of hidden areas, local LEO set up spots, air traffic, etc.

I've used cruise control in all my cars and especially in my cobra. But like anyone with a powerful car the temptation to put the hammer down is always there and it takes a lot of restraint to fight the urge to do so. This is also why I usually take my focus everywhere as driving it fast is pointless.

Welcome to the Super Speeders club brother! I got nabbed in my 99 Cobra a week after they implemented the Super Speeder law. 86 in a 65.

Thanks all for the moral support, I can assure you I don't wanna be that that gives Cobra owners a bad name.

No thankfully GA uses a point system.

FWIW I certainly didn't *feel* like I was traveling well above interstate speeds. Won't say it wasn't in that neighborhood but I didn't even look down bc he was hiding out somewhere. When he told me 88 mph my chin hit the steering wheel.

Good thing is I won't have to DD, this week I just so happen to give my DD to the wife bc her DD needs brake work...that will be done tonight!!

Not something I had aspired to do. At any rate I figure I need to rekindle a desire for drag racing (since that is the closest track to me) or quickly find another way to get my 5 years worth of wanting to drive this car out of my system. New goal will be to find autocross :bored: events or a for real road course.

Then again ye ole Air Force could just hook me up with orders to Germany like I requested!!!

I DD mine and you just have to speed selectively, don't be the lead guy in a pack, watch for ppl hitting their brakes, etc. I know stretches of road where I can open the taps on the way home from work and have a low chance of seeing a cop.

Also as was said, you'll slowly get used to the power and the whine. Although after 10 months I'm not quite there yet.

I only got 1 ticket in the Cobra. Going to the gym, I was on my cell phone (talking, not texting). I was going over the speed limit which was 35 I believe. Cop didn't have me on radar and gave me a cell phone ticket. Knock on wood lol
