Like many of you guys I have owned many mustangs (10). Some of the best one's had manual transmissions, 88GT, 95 Cobra, 03 Cobra, and 10GT500 to name a few. I was all about the manual and thought auto's were "dumb". Fast forward a few years and I start reading about the new automatics in other vehicles and how fast they shifted. I always wondered "how fast would a mustang be with one of those automatics?" 2018 Mustang answered my question. 10r80 5.0's will get with the program. I was intrigued and went and test drove one. I was impressed, so impressed that I currently own a 19GT with a 10r80. I say give it a chance, see what it will do, and better yet DRIVE one. I know, I drank the kool-aid.. and it tastes good.

Build both an auto and a manual and the cost goes up for each. Ford has gone with one transmission in their top dog Mustang for decades now. Why would this one be any different.
Also irrelevant, even though that cost would be quite negligible, you are basically trying to silence other's wants because you already have what you want. That aint cool.

Lol.

I wanted a manual too but it simply isn't happening. I've learned to accept the things in life which I cannot change including having the fastest shifting transmission in a Mustang - ever. That...is cool.

And by the way, cost is completely relevant. Economies of scale are at play here with all GT500's scheduled to get the DCT. Cut that number in half (for example) and the unit cost increase becomes significant. Factor in development of another TR6060, one that would be the lowest volume TR6060 transmission produced for a GT500 to date, and you just bumped the price of the GT500 up by a healthy notch. That isn't "silencing other's wants" but rather a stark economic reality.

You mean the car Ford would only sell to people with “social media presence”? Ya another huge blunder by the blue oval.

Fail. Car sold out in very short amount of time. As said, cafe and carb credits were at play.

Ford was very smart to sell them as they did to media magnets. Other people in the free market advertise the car and prop up the brand for Ford without a penny having to be spent.

Ford gets brand recognition, and good online press (who buys a $400k car to talk shit about it) and the buyers know if they sell the car within the first few years of ownership, Ford will sue them for doing so.

Only way Ford could arguably have done any better is to set up a royalty from online revenue generated using a Ford GT but that would get into extortion laws.

Back to manual vs dct, yes manual is ultimately my personal choice, and yes this thread is started respectfully to voice the desire for a manual.

Just as I would prefer a manual in a 911 gt3 rs, I would prefer a manual in my future gt500.

Reality is, I’m not about to go buy one, and the guys in here who will obviously are fine. I can’t expect Ford to build “my gt500” when I’m not giving them any money. Me buying a car used 5-10 years from now does nothing for Ford today.

As this is “restricted” to those who want to express to Ford the want for a manual, I’ll ask this question, who here has owned a manual Mustang with over 750hp?
Who here has owned a manual Mustang with over 526hp?

^please note steering angle changed a little. 2-3 shift around 90mph out of a slight off camber bend at ~7k rpm on 800whp. I did this one handed because my car doesn’t upshift byitself when I’m in sport mode.

I’d like if my next one could though

It may grow on me, but I cant help but feel the car has been neutered.

Kind of like this kid on YouTube in the Tesla drag racing people. It's faster than many badass cars but it just isnt the same.

So people should always just be happy with what they are offered and never tell the manufacture what they want??? Got it, not like people have been constantly complaining about ford taking forever to come out with this car.... Looking at you...

If you were correct why would ford even bother saying they'll offer a manual if they get enough demand?. Whether or not the DCT is better or not (yes, I know it is better) is not relevant no matter how much ya think it is.

If you weren't trying to silence people asking for it you wouldnt be in this thread.

And away we go...

You are using the terms ALWAYS and NEVER in referencing something I said - which I did not.

Never tell the manufacturer what they want? Who the **** said that (other than you)?

Straw man arguments seldom work. You can do better than that if you'd like to debate on something beyond emotion.

Ford can say whatever they want. It's what they DO that matters.

I didn't argue relevance with respect to if the DCT is better or not - another straw man.

And where the **** did I ever "try to silence people?"

I'm not an old fart yet but after my '10 I started to realize that sitting in traffic with a manual was the end of my cobra mustang days. My knees work but get aggravated with sports so the clutch can ruin my fun time..

So since theb 13/14s I've been thinking the cost to buy plus convert to an auto would be prohibitive. When I read DCT was coming it was meant to be :)

Here's the real question... (and many of you like me don't give a crap cause you wouldn't buy anyway) Will c8 get the dct and a manual gearbox 1st MY?

If not, you have to reason with the numbers they pump out that it just costs too much to develop. So can't really blame Ford for a vehicle with 1/4th the volume.

I'm guessing it won't have a manual option for 1st MY.

Good point. They should go even more cost efficient by not offering any options and build one style, one color, one engine, one transmission basic options mustang to save even more money. Even better idea is why doesn’t Ford just build one car only. Yugo style! Imagine the savings comrade!!

Carroll would have given us a manual option. No way this car has his name on it without one if he was still around. Shame on Ford.

Shelby’s personal Cobra roadster was an Auto.
More ‘67-70 Shelby Mustangs had autos.
Carroll would have embraced the tech that would allow the most PERFORMANCE.
If you’ve read my posts, I’d personally like for Ford to offer a manual option in time if the business case allows and that they understand our desire, first and foremost, is performance.

Adding DCT is a Ponycar/American muscle class first!
Bravo Ford Performance division, Shelby American and Team Mustang.
Thank you!
