Carlos and those looking at going to a rear pan, are none of you having any IRS overheating issues and therefore need to have a diff cooler mounted under the rear? Or do you have a diff cooler in the trunk area?

No diff cooler for Carlos, or most of us discussing this.

I have a tr2 dif and running 4.10's. No cooler for me. I do change the fluid about 6 months.
I believe running 4.10's do make it easier on the drive train. The revs climb much faster, easier to keep up with the slower car, can run most tracks in 4th gear and still keep up to most cars.

are you going to try and make a functional diffuser or were you just going to block off the rear bumper?

I have not looked yet for the material to make the fins. I am trying to finish up the belly pans first. I was able to make a pan to close off between the side of the rear pan and the rear fenders where our exhaust runs thru. I took pictures but they didn't turn out very good so i'll post some tomorrow. I did install the passenger side pan. I'm not sure what design i'm going to use up front. I already have most of the air in front going around the car.

well, you have to have the diffuser at a certain angle for it work.

I'm glad to hear you're adding in parts to smooth the underside. I'm happy to help any way I can.

The past track event the rear wing made the rear feel more planted. This week i need to check out the car for next weekends event at buttonwillow. I know i need front pads and maybe rear ones also. Change brake fluid and misc items.

As for the rear bumper I looked no further than a Austrailian V8 SS car, the rear bumpers on those cars are much like the 03 cobra. Their fix for the rear bumper was to remove the lower portion to open the bumper up and make it less of a parachute for air underneath of the car. Pretty simple to do on an 03 cobra rear bumper and costs/weighs less than a functionably questionable rear difuser etc.

I thought of something similar. Would like to get a closer view of the rear. Our main problem for us with the irs is that our exhaust hangs down too low. Now if we had side exhaust or a solid axle i think it is do able.

Speaking of aero, a possum tried to modify mine last night. Damn thing just wandered right in the middle of the road with no way for me to stop or swerve in time. Lucky my mach lip is bolted on and didn't go anywhere. Still not sure how he made it under the car since my vert x-brace and my exhaust are about 2-3" off the ground... Couldn't have been pretty, but I didn't see any body parts under the car so who knows.

Wasn't there a thread here about two or more years ago with a guy from Germany who made a front pan out of a plastic material? If I remember correctly ithelped the car on the autobahn and there was talk fo him shipping a few to this country but I think the cost was crazy to ship a cut piece of plastic. It was some type that was used at his work in the AV industry (TV maybe?). I was pretty sure he had good results at high speeds with the front end using his design. At least it would be a start to modding the underside.

Anyone else remember this?

Yes i do remember the post. I checked into getting some type of plastic but the cost is about 100.00 a sheet. It was 4'x 8' by 1/4 thick.

There was a post a while ago from a guy in Germany. I got one of the pieces from him. I am thinking of expanding on his design a bit. I am also getting a 00R splitter for the front of my Cobra.

Most of the aix guys do the same thing, but for a street car who wants to see all the ugly dirty component under the car.

I still have toying with the diffuser idea's. I say several exotics at a car show and they used them but since most of them were rwd they were not as pronounced as some other vehicles. IMHO the ones i was interseted in did not increase downforce but cleaned up the air as it was exiting the car.

I would make it similar to the link below.

could you give me better pictures on how you mounted the plate to the rear of the car?

Here is the tabs that slide into the gas tank cover.

Here is the mounting plate that attaches to the gas tank cover to the irs subframe.

It should make a small venturi effect and help make it more effective.
True just having some fins hanging down in the wind does not a diffuser or wing make. Otherwise there wouldn't be so many funny crashes (and short "flights") on the RedBull Flutag highlights. ;^)

There is so much turbulence under our cars, a few flaps at the back can't do much.
I'm a pharmacist not an engineer, but my Dad was.
I'm thinking unless you can build a taper into the diffuser, narrow front, wider back and/ or a aero taper (upside down wing), you are wasting time and money. Psyche factor may have some value.
You want the taper to be enough to speed up the air, but not too steep as to cause seperation and just drag (or stall). I'm afraid a flat piece of aluminum riveted to the gas tank cover and rear bumper cover isn't going to cut it.
