It honestly wouldnt surprise me if it had like 685-700 HP. People are forgetting this is suppose to be a ZL1 competitor. Not a Demon/Hellcat competitor. I see alot of people guessing 750+ and i feel like its going to lead to alot of disappointed people when its revealed.

You know how pissed people would be if Ford came in under 700hp after advertising it as having 700+hp? It's safe to assume it will be comfortably above 700hp advertised and will likely be underrated some as well. There's no "competing" so to say in this class either. It is all about who can reinvent and raise the bar with every new Shelby, Hellcat, or ZL1.

Given that Chevy has the great track performer and Dodge has the reigning horsepower champs, my guess is that the Ford formula is to combine both those elements, outperforming both Chevy and Dodges while punching up into GTR, Z06, 911, and 488 territory at times.

That is what Ford has targeted and been devoted to for the past few years so that is what we have come to expect from them. I'm going to go out on a limb and say it probably wouldn't have taken this long had they just been planning on releasing a car that isn't much more spectacular than the ZL1 or Hellcat.

There's a reason the mules were been seen running around with Porsches everywhere it tested...I REALLY don't see Ford dropping the ball with their halo Mustang after all this time and development. They've been topping everyone since 2003.

Damn, now you're saying 4300?
No way. Max 4000# and I'm still confident they are still in the 3s with weight.
This is why I wish Ford would've released specs by now. Maybe even some fun with it like SRT/Dodge marketing campaign.
DCT and some other surprises are my bet.
Thankfully keeping '15-17 lights but definitely need the '18+ interior.
Looks like I'll be going back to NAIAS and a Red Wings game again. Maybe a few of the Ford guys at PRI next weekend will get lippy:)

The two biggest concerns are always horsepower and weight for rightful reasons. Lower weight will without a doubt offer the best performance, but we have to remember that since the GTR came out weight hasn't necessarily doomed a car's performance or capability. Technology has allowed for more weight while still offering world class performance, so we have to keep that in mind that a car can be heavy by normal standards while still providing ridiculous performance numbers. For the price point I think the GT500 is going to fall into the category the GTR did.

Except they put AWD on the GTR. I'm sure that's where a lot of the extra weight comes from, but also boosts its performance, as you mentioned. I think we'd all agree that it would be a shock to everyone if the new GT500 ends up with AWD.

It’s interesting... while we wait here... just saw a local high volume dealer has new 19 1LZ Z06 below 70k advertised... imo that’s going to be way less than the GT500... Z06 is 3500lbs and 650hp... not sure the GT500 will be able to beat that hp to weight ratio. Although the C8 is on the horizon, I might lean to a highly discounted new C7Z over a dealer marked up GT500... but I’m not buying either so my opinion is moot.

Heavily discounted low option 5 year old design z06 vs new GT500. Also, no shit a 2 seater sports car will be lighter than a 2+2 coupe. These cars are aimed at different markets, they arent in the same class. Also, why buy a low option 2019 when you can get a '17 3LZ, under $70?

There was an interview in last months MotorTrend with the head of Ford's SVO/SVT or Ford Performance and besides the guy being super excited about electrification and Zero emission crap and how it integrates well into...blah,blah,blah............
He said a few things about the GT500
1. It'll be Manual only
2. It'll be Supercharged
3. It'll have "Well over 700 hp"
4. It'll arrive late 2019

I didn't see the that info posted here, I assume that it is old news as I've had the magazine about a month.

not saying my guess was right by any means. if it was a little over 700bhp and rwhp is under 700 their "advertised rating" wouldn't be a lie. didn't the 14's come with 662bhp and dyno'd in the high 590's? i think a lot of us are confusing crank hp with hp to the wheels. regardless it's going to be a monster. and i totally agree it will be under rated. ford tends to do that more than any other make for some reason. haha i kinda want to say 732bhp now.

Sort of like how the S550 base was supposed to be 200lbs lighter than the S197 base, and it ended up being 200lbs heavier.
