Barry, my point is that if I accuse your dog of biting me the word will be taken as fact so long as a bite is present that is indicative of a dog around your dog's size. No impressions will be made, no real investigation, just my word.

I bet half the reports or more about pit bull attacks are BS due to a lack of proper identification.

I am not stating that all the attacks are lies. I am saying that I believe people either cannot properly identify one or they are covering for a pet that they do not want put down.

My wife said that the majority of bites they see are small dogs and huskies.

Just like the article presented in the op. How many 120 pounds apbt’s have you ever seen?
Me zero and I grew up in Brockton Mass one of the pitbull capitals of the world.

So wait, people who don't like pits, read articles about pit attacks, listen to the media are uneducated about them because people who like them, own them, read articles about them being nanny dogs are educated?

Maybe there are sheep on both sides then.
Maybe y'all could go read the stat that 1/2 of dog deaths are pits and get educated too?

Like I said, they attack no more often than other breeds but we all know that when they do it is most times worse than other breeds.
Can you not educate yourself on that fact?

We all know that any breed can be trained to do both good and bad things also.
And sometimes the fact of just being a dog can still overcome training.

My GSDs were never trained to hate cats. They've been in the same household since they were brought home.
My male would still eat a cat if it came in his fenced yard. Outside the fence he did' care for them but would not attack.
2 dogs, same training, same surroundings.
My female on the other hand,

GSD’s were the 1980’s pit bulls.

Just sayin.

Yep GSDs and Rottweilers.. We had a Rottweiler growing up, great dog, but definitely aggressive to strangers in our house or yard...until properly introduced anyways. I was bitten by a neighbors GSD as a little kid when I was 2-3 years old, don't recall it of course, but my folks do. I would say it was warning bite and not an attack though, sure I was poking and prodding it like any toddler would.

That's laughable as GSDs still bit people often, I'm not stupid.
And their reputation was never as bad as what pits are now.
Still doesn't negate the fact that half of dog attack deaths are from Pits and the other half is split among breeds.
And my whole point of talking about GSDs was the fact that I had 2 dogs from the same little in the same house, training and environment who were different.
Point is sometimes you can't train instinct out of a dog.
Just saying

That's all that needs to be said. But the idiots that defend these monsters won't listen.

Inb4 more excuses.

I've been a pit owner in the past, and my bitch was a baby. She was a pregnant stray when she was rescued, and all she ever wanted was some love and shelter. We had to put her done after she got sick, but she never even growled at another dog. Weird, I know, but she was just a pussy. Haha
We used to bring her into Petco etc, and everyone loved her, then they ask what breed she was. As soon as I say "Pit bull", all I heard back was "C'mon kids, that's enough, let's go", or I would just get the cold shoulder.
It's not fair to this beautiful breed.

Having said that, I would not get another pit...I LOVE the breed, but they come with WAY too much responsibility now. A pit so much as barks the wrong way and you're all over the news.

Their reputation was every bit as bad considering the lack of social media at that time.

You owned them. Tell us if that reputation was deserved.

That’s the point I was making.

I agree with your point about not always being able to train the instinct out of a dog. At one point I was in a similar situation as you, except it was 2 Rotties.

And this idiot will never own a different breed of dog. Sorry if that bothers you and don’t care what you or anyone else thinks of me. Srs.

I wish you guys were my neighbors.
I'm glad we're not. Because even though I have close former coworkers who I greatly respect despite the fact that they focus an inordinate amount of time championing this stupid ugly worthless breed, nothing says "sell your house immediately" like pit bull owners moving in.

I had a neighbor like you. He and his wife rushed to judgement the first day I moved in. A year or so later, the guy made a statement that it was a great neighborhood until I moved in with my Harley and my two dogs. Not surpringly, he was very nice face to face and I was genuinely surprised to hear he said this. Right up until he called animal control because my 2 Rotties “attacked him the previous evening.” When he was asked about his injuries, he said he “had a bruise but it went away.”

Huh? You were attacked by 2 Rottweilers less than 12 hours ago and your injury was a bruise?! And it’s gone already?!

Regardless, I was investigated and my dogs were nearly taken from me. They spent 10 days on home quarantine for the incident and the relationship with the neighbor was ruined forever.

Were you ever afraid he would poison your dogs? You should have beat the living shit out of him with a mask on and leather gloves so that he could not identify you and so that your hands would not have a scratch on them.

I can’t tell if you are being sarcastic because we never agree on anything?

Careful what you wish for.

These are the type that would lace a piece of meat with rat poison and feed it to your dog just because it was an apbt.

My girls are inside dogs and when they’re out in my backyard, I’m out there with them keeping an eye on them. I definitely get what you’re saying though.

I’m ok with that. I’d be the one waving bye.
