Has anyone addressed the elephant in the room? There are many people who are in a state of denial that a non eight cylinder engine can lay waste to something larger.

Yeah I'm open to all options but the 13-14 fx packages really look good imo

I was looking at 13/14 FX 4 SCAB,s this winter with less than 20K miles and they still were bringing decent money.
Then a found a 16XLT 301A with 6000 miles traded in. Patience and you'll find what you need.

how do you like the 2016?

10K miles, no issues.
But they are all good when they are new.
I would probably go with 4 door in retrospect, suicide doors are a pain.

Is there some reason you don't shut the damn thing off?

Because in New Mexico it's over 100 degrees, and I'm not going to sit in a truck with the AC off?

Also, my boss has said.. " What if it's 125 degrees outside, you're in the middle of nowhere, and your truck wont start"

Thats why we never turn them off in the field.

So, you let it run for 5 hours at a time so you don't get uncomfortable, or on the one in a million chance in won't start? I'd fire your dumb ass for wasting that much gas.

Are you actually sitting in the truck for those 5 hours, or are you working around the site?

I'm looking forward to test driving a 2017 2.7L EB this week. Looking at all the discounts it might be worth buying brand new. Oh and I was approved for 0% financing. Which would also be a plus.

I would go with the new 2.7 over a used 11-14 3.5 and the 0% interest is much better than what a used vehicle interest rate will be. Without a tune the two trucks are pretty comparable performance wise. The 3.5 will have huge gains over the 2.7 when tuned though. My 2015 2.7 averaged 23.5 mpg while my 2013 3.5 averaged 19.5 mpg both 2wd.

Nice, and thanks for the info. Is you're 2.7 tuned?

if you want more power get the 3.5 especially if you are going to tune it. Mine gets 22 on the highway, city is not so great lol but it's a fricken truck not a Honda.

How is that the elephant in the room? Pretty sure its been mentioned multiple times in this thread how fast the EB can be if tuned.

To me, the EB guys are as bad as Ford trying to push it on people. Literally the ONLY thing the EB has on the 5.0 is towing, IMHO. Not everyone buys a truck just to tow. So why does everyone shit on the 5.0?

Even not tuned, the ability of the turbo engine is like a challenge to the manhood of those with the mighty eight cylinder.

A tuned 3.5 will hit 400whp and almost 500tq. With e85 you can hit even more. Very impressive for a 6 cylinder. The torque blows the 5.0bro out of the water....

I personally went with a 14' 5.0 because I traded in a Mini Cooper S (Turbo) that ate oil after 80k miles. Simpler design and my daily driver, I went with something that I could potentially work on myself after 100k miles instead of being forced to going to a dealer to work on it.

Can anyone report back the life of the turbos on the 2.7 or 3.5? What's the cost to replace or rebuild them after 150k?

And then you meet a 2nd gen Coyote F-150 with the only bolt-on being a TVS making 600 rwhp. Yes the ecoboost engines make a decent amount of power with bolt-ons and a tune, but the Coyote is king when it comes to making big power.

Simpler engine = simpler life

I still have friends at Ford and the Ecoboosts tend to eat turbos in higher mileage situations. They also decimate timing guides/chains/tensioners over time.

It's the consequence of turbocharging a V6 and pushing it. It's a reality that in any turbo vehicle that the seals are going to give way to entropy, and the engine will wear. Especially when you know that Ford's tests are done in perfect conditions with the oil change every 3-5k. The average owner isn't nearly that particular about intervals. Therefore -> More wear and tear

In the grand scheme of things, your route is NOT feasible for most. Why do people always interject such nonsense into any discussion dealing with a turbo or s/c engine?
