Exactly !!!! , something is missing from this equation !!! Some bit of information ha been left out , you shut a car off and it never starts back up , and the cause is a bent rod ??!!!!?! I'm trying to wrap my head around this , so when the motor got shut off the rod bends ??? Isn't that the only way to say it ??

That's pretty much what happen. Car drove fine to the shop. It was parked for a couple of days. They started it up fine drove it out of the shop drove it onto the dyno turned it off. They strapped it to the dyno and was switching out the injectors for the e85 tune. Once they finished that they try to start it up I believe it turned over twice then clunk. Would never start again.

Lol where this thread went. When I get home I'll give all the details as I can but Steve (foofkiller) has pretty much covered everything. And my car had only a 150 shot and its only been hit 5 times and all five times were on the dyno.

So the rod got bent that's a fact , under what conditions did this rod bend that is the questions I would ask , you don't drive around with a partially bent rod then all of the sudden it bends so bad the car won't start so the rod got bent all in one shot , so basically from the information we have it's very unrealistic that the rod bent in the way that you say , if you were doing doughnuts in the parking lot or spraying it on the Dyno it would make perfect sense but to shut a car off from idle and them attempt to start it up and then BAM !!! A bent rod .......just doesn't make sense that it had anything to do with strain from your mods

I am doing a built motor actually something different and no one has done before and porting my heads. We are shooting for 530-550 rwhp on e85 N/A and the shop has been very helpful with this situation and treating properly. Too me I don't think it's TS fault and honestly it my opinion that matters to them. But once my car is done its going to be a totally different animal then before.

There's no way anything you've done caused that rod to bend , there are only a couple ways a rod bends in those conditions and I won't believe that the parts on the car or the way you drove it had anything to do with that rod bending in this particular situation , like others have said its unheard of , if you were racing , spraying the car on the street or the Dyno , driving the guts outta your car ......yea that could do it .....probably break it actually because of force under high rpm but to bend in those circumstances it would have to be something like a leaky injector or it excess fuel that was let run into the intake port , as others in here have told you also

I've never had anyone work on my car but myself so it's hard to blame anybody else , we are here for knowledge and support for each other because I don't know everything and either does the next guy so we give some opinion and advice with the information we get , obviously if you are cool with the situation that's all that matters , but like others I would really be skeptical if I dropped my car off at the Dyno running perfectly and they called and said my motor is locked up and it ends up being a bent rod , plus I only did it once (left my car at the Dyno) but now I never have my car on those rollers unless I'm right there to see what goes on , my motor blows up I'm right there to see it no questions .

These rods will not just bend out of no where. The piston must of been half way up or closer and alot of fuel must have been in the cylinder from the injector install. That would cause it to bend then lock.

Its a definete possibility. The problem is proving it without getting into a messy situation.

I would bet money on that scenario. Car runs fine to the dyno, shut down, changed injectors, tried to start, turned over twice and clunk. Maybe there was fuel on the piston. Anyway, sorry about your engine OP. Good luck with the new build and post results when you finish. 530 hp on a NA engine will be very nice.

So its 50/50 your parts their labor. Beers and everyone is happy?
OP, the most important thing is that you feel good about a very shitty situation. You can't let things like this mishap bring you down or get you angry, and I respect you for your tolerance. GL and keep us posted on your build.

Some of the peoples comments in here are ridiculous, rods don't just bend from a car being started up period. Changing out injectors and allowing a cylinder to fill with fuel will hydrolock that cylinder and bend a rod. This should not be a 50/50 split or anything close to that. Improper install of the injectors is to blame and the shop changed them end of story. They either fix the motor at their expense or I would go to court. No way should the op being paying for this situation. It's pretty clear what happened now and why a rod bent, and is no way a fault of the op or aftermarket parts but instead a poor install that caused the failure. Can't believe people are actually sticking up for this shop and saying its the motor parts that failed and trying to make the op come out of pocket. When you hydrolock a cylinder, you bend a rod. Poor installation procedure as expected.

After reading all this , the facts are if how the op says it happened is actually how it happened there is no way as an owner of a shop outright say anything was the cause unless they were 100% sure , the car was in their possession and they performed work on it that had the possibility of causing the damage. How could they in good faith convince the op there is no way possible they could be responsible. Op , your are one good dude and that shop should thank God it was your car that blew up not a thousand other people that at the very least be a thorn in their side even if the shop never admitted any blame.

I already figured the shop would try to wiggle out of the problem as I noted earlier. I've worked as a tech for 15 years combined at Ford as a master tech and run a performance shop. Anytime anything happened if it was my fault, I always accepted blame and responsibility and paid for any problems encountered. Just seeing this and the shop placing blame on everything other than them self is just sad and BS. Being honest would of made this shop look very good, but anyone with mechanical automotive knowledge knows the shop is clearly at fault and they are thieves for trying to make someone else pay for their damage.

You are entitled to your own opinion. Even it comes off as a complete ass.

If you knew the guys that run this shop, you would trust their word. They pride themselves on not being like every other shop and just pass things by you.

But then again, your opinion. You can find many people in the DFW area that has dealt with this shop before, or others that have dealt with the people directly that will praise them.

I'll leave it at that and let Steve set you in your place.

So with all your knowledge what do you think bent the rod ?? Better yet I'd like to know what the shop is saying caused it , I don't care if you are the dumbest mechanic out there you know rods just don't bend or break the way this happened and be considered the fault of the op , that's all were saying , what did the op do that caused that rod to bend and lock the engine up ?!!!??!? That's my question to you , and someone being honest and someone taking responsibility for a $4500 short block plus labor are 2 different things.

dirty, that could be, but seeing how this thread portrays the event, the shop should claim full responsibility.

Like I said earlier dirtyd88, anyone with good Automotive knowledge, and who can put two and two together can see what went wrong. People make mistakes, just human error, but take responsibility for the actions. I don't care what a shops reputation is, things happen. Maybe their reputation is good because they know how to lie and cover their ass when they mess something up, think about that. Money is money, and can make good people go bad.
