Yes,

the car had a lund tune on it prior to running the cai and after the cai

the runs were different days, the actual pickup was more than that, but corrected back to sea level was .1 and 2 mph

2 mph is a decent judge, when you run the car over and over with the same mph, make the change, and gain 2mph with the same 60's,

there definately is improvement there

I've found some crazy stuff in the manual GT calibrations that limit power on the track, but allow full power on the dyno. Jay, I'll call you tomorrow to discuss this.

IMO (as stated before) it's the TUNE that's limiting power, not the CAI. Hense the approach I've taken of 'limited mods' to go fast. I've been on a mission to maximize every bolt on BEFORE going to the next mod. The last 2 months this car has kicked my *ss at the strip, but we've made serious progress on *how* it limits power at the track vs the dyno.
This weekends drag testing has shown excellent results. Getting around the limitations in the manual GT ECU is in my power...finally!
I am confident we can now 'get the power to the ground' in ways not possible before.

Sooo if tuners can't get around the ECUs not allowing the full potential of the intake, why bother with the intake? Like I said, money can be spent somewhere else until tuners can figure this one out. No sense in spending the money on something that's going give you the nice dyno numbers but at the track the performance is the same as the stock intake.

See posts above, not all tuners are having the problem getting it to the ground.
Take a look in the thread about track times.

Thanks

WBT, why the hostility? Shaun has said over and over the issue with some not gaining time at the track is due to the tables in the tune.

If the cars are making 12-15 more HP on the dyno and the tune isn't getting it to the ground more work should be put into the tune instead of trying to discredit the intake, wouldn't you think?

Intakes don't just stop working in 2011 Mustangs.

As for dynoing with the hood up, it must be done that way to be fair. There are only a couple dyno shops that have dyno cells that can control the temps and wind as if the car is driving on the street. Arrington has this and Travis this sites owner tested the Airaid intake on it and with the hood closed and it still picked up power.

When driving under hood temps are not as hot as some think. Once moving they come down fast. Check it with your stock box. It goes up at idle and comes down at speed. The difference I have found in testing is that the open filter IAT's come down faster than the stock box does.

I just did this today with my 2011 GT Roush blower car with JLT Big Air Intake.
IAT Temp test - YouTube

At 45 mph IAT's were only 2 degrees higher than ambient.

With the air inlet on the 2011's under hood temps don't get much higher than 10-15 degrees above ambient in slow speed traffic.

So dynoing with the hood closed and a small fan isn't doing the intake justice.

So their not "hot air Intakes" at all.
I say test, test and test. If you make power on the dyno, work more on the tune to get it to the ground.

An air intake is the # 1 -#2 mod every car owner does and that's not because they don't work.

You guys running 11's with the stock box are killer drivers and tuners, congrats!!
Once you get the tune down for the good intakes you'll be even faster.

Thanks
Jay

I wasn't being hostile. I am responding to these "claims" so the community isn't brainwashed further than already has been. Let's break this down:

1. Your argument about dyno'ing with the hood closed is laughable at best. Both intakes are still being used under the same conditions. Dyno'ing with the hood open doesn't make anything fair other than claims that can be made to sell a product. Again, we don't drive our car's around with the hood open.
2. You are right about Travis testing the Airaid intake with the hood open and closed. He stated with the hood closed, the results compared to stock were similar and gains were negligible.
3. My tuner and I reviewed IAT's with a aftermarket CAI on my car in traffic and we noticed that temps were much higher than ambient. It took almost 1 mile of driving for the IAT's to move back down close to ambient temps. They are hot air intakes.
4. I guarantee you my tuner is one of the best. He doesn't offer his services for sale to anyone and does it only for himself and close friends. He has many connections in the Ford tuning community. He damn sure knows how to tune for an aftermarket CAI.
5. CAI's are one of the more popular mods because they are offered in package deals with tunes. The gains on these cars are in the tune, very little if any are a result of the CAI.
6. Comparing FI intake results to a N/A car is ridiculous. No idea why this was brought into the picture.
7. As I previously stated, I purchased your plastic CAI with my own money and will be spending my own time testing it at the track. I will report unbiased results to the community regardless of if it performs the same, better or worse than stock. How many owners out there are willing to do that?

As we've discussed before though, the street and the track are 2 different things.

Normally at the track, you have taken time to cool your engine bay down, therefore there isn't an over abundance of hot air.

I personally tested a CAI at the track, and it produced gains. That's good enough for me. The car was tuned by Lund, and I know you respect him, because thats where alot of the tuning that goes into your car starts.

so to say it doesn't work on the track for shawn or danner is not painting a good light for the street tuning now is it? Lol. Shawns super smart and super cool, but he's never tested out product. A couple killer drivers/tuners run impressive times, but too many need more mods to go 11s and it works.

Well, I've run 10s with the stock airbox on an NA engine. That wasn't in negative DA either. Certainly not a killer driver, my car is an automatic.

I've tested Steeda, Airaid, and yours. None provided any measurable ET or MPH gains. The tune is not the limiting factor, when one of these aftermarket intakes is installed I see no difference in ignition timing, cam timing, airflow, and the throttle body never tries to close. Didn't matter if it was an automatic or a manual car, both behaved consistently. Since there's no changes to cam timing, air, fuel, or spark, there's absolutely no possible way the tune can be limiting anything when one of these intakes is installed unless you believe in something like black magic. Makes for a nice story when you're trying to sell these intakes, but it's not reality, and not even a story coming from someone who does their own tuning.

You have no clue where it starts. Just because I get some of the same things Jon gets doesn't mean it starts with him, it absolutely does not. Now, after it comes down to us, yes there have been things Jon helped me with, just like there are things I have helped him with, and others have been involved also. You have no business spewing this garbage, that is a complete and total falsehood which you have fabricated.

Stock airbox, 3.31 gears, 26 inch slicks, LCAs and brackets, offroad X and no resonators, stock mufflers and a killer f*cking tune from Shaun.

WBT's tuner (kdanner) is talented.
I do not doubt his testing/results.
At the same time, I prefer to see results with my own eyes.

I've tuned 11 second CAI only cars, and 11 second Exhaust only cars. Hell, my own car went 11's with tune / tires only. By that logic exhaust mods are useless.

Both are correct IMO. More air in = more air out. The problem is in the Ford Programming. I've logged things I thought were not possible........... Things SCT tuners do NOT have access to. Things Kdanner and Lund DO have access to...

I have every clue where it starts, and who it starts with.

I have had tunes by a couple people in the "in" group, and one person no longer in the "in" group.

When the SHO code was cracked, I was the first one to get the tune. I know when it was cracked, where it was cracked, who cracked it and how it filtered down.

It wasn't a dig on you. Jon offers a tune for the CAI's, the tune Jon sent me worked on my car. I know you guys are good friends and share tuning info. I know you respect him. I don't know where there is falsehoods and fabrication in that.

It wasn't an attack on your tuning ability.

I drank the Koolaid. I pulled the cai off my manual 2011 before I traded it in and now its just sitting on the shelf. I do not have a personal tuner so switching between intakes is not feasible. That video WBT just posted is nuts. 119 MPH!!!

I ran 120.74 on the same night using the stock CAI. :)

I get it!! If your car is fast without a CAI, you're a heck of a driver. If you're car is slow with the CAI it must be the tune!

But wait! We just had two examples of fast cars without CAIs and they are both autos. So where do they fall into? I can't think of any other excuse at this point lol
