Idk if it stirred my interest in automobiles but If I’m honest… the first car that I wanted obsessively was the Gen 1 Ford Lightning. And I had the privilege of owning one for more than 16 years. Ol girl was very good to me.

As nice as the Chevelle and GTO were, I always favored the Buick GSX, with this paint. Such a beautiful car, from front to back. Menacing from the front. Menacing from the rear.

Another view of the same car.

The fastback shape and the quarterwell bulges of the A-body were just the best, but I think Olds takes the cake for them, especially in the Hurst Olds paint. The back is much straighter, the quarters more exaggerated.

And much like the Chevelle, it's a tough call between the 68/69 and 70/71. The 70+ have the iconic hood scoops, and tail lights, similar to the later Chevelles

Friend was CT State Trooper back in the 80's. Went for a ride along in a 1989 coupe and was hooked. It was an auto so not quite as kool as the stick but nonetheless it was dope! Maroon just like the one in the Pic. They used the Mazda MX-6 to.

They had Grand Nationals as well. None of the CT State Police cars are marked. Never have been.

They are the ONLY State Police agency WITHOUT markings on their cars. They are also take home cars and can be used whenever which is why the union fights for them being "Unmarked".

That is one beautiful '61 Catalina. Complete with the 390-Triple Power motor. I see that it just ended moments ago but didn't meet the Reserve. High bid was $175,000. I read that it had polished aluminum bumpers (over the counter purchased). A weight saving option back then for cars destined to spend time at the track.

I will get flames for this ( and rightfully so) but this is what got me into cars…. This car single-handedly. I grew up in Compton Ca in the 80s and 90s so this was the look in LA

Now I am old and my car tasted has drastically changed but my love for the fox body remains. It is the one car I have waiting to town and I plan on doing so when I retire as a gift that came full circle

I hope to have one as clean as this ..

So, the first time I really noticed cars or wanted one was Mad Max Road Warrior, watching that at around 9 years old. The Interceptor was just so epic cool. Then also about that time the 'Cuda from Phantasm II, again, so cool.

As a kid, my father before I was born had a FB Mazda RX-7 and his brother had a split window side exit 'Vette. By the time I was in 4th grade a friends father had a Lancer Evolution II and a Porsche 930. It would be many many years before I realized what a Evo was. I thought it was a British car since it was RHD (kid was Scottish and we lived in Norway).

By the time I was in HS I wanted a Datsun 280ZX, Mustang II, '71 Fastback or a Honda CRX. There was a Mustang II for sale for $1,500 but I never got the cash to get it. I had a friend with CRX and thought it looked cool. Another friend had a Blue '95 GT with a cam, paid $10k for it and had a $300 loan. IN ****ING SANE at that time to be able to afford such a thing.

I ended up with with what I could afford, a '93 Escort LS, later a '95 Golf then a '99 GTI (2.slow). I'd later get a '95 GS-T but quickly found rust and sold it and got a '88 RX-7. This magazine basically forever changed my taste and goals.

For whatever reason that car just resonated with me. Today, I hate almost everything about it. The bolt on fender flares, the S15 front, the gauges in the A/C vents, The V-mount, the two tone, the CF Hood with pins, the billet shift know. The Magnesium paint is OKAY.....

But I'd end up getting a 240sx in 2004 and building that over 12 years while having a bunch of other cars along the way. Could never decide if I wanted V8 Muscle or Import Turbo. Project Car or Nice Daily.

New To Me - $2,600, AZ car (Guy moved up and sold it to get a Jeep for Winter)

Mid Project Point, I had hit a fence drifting (fender/hood) and someone had hit my door). Frist tried to do a KA-T but aborted and buy a dudes swap from Chicago.

Car first got painted Grey again, but then I painted it "Cosmic Silver" a color I made up for free at PPG. Summer humidity, it didn't lay right and the metallic sparkle never came out. So Toyota Signal Yellow after that.

Final Form. Ended up selling it and the Porsche to get the Cobra. Bone Head move in hindsight. Oh well.

As for the Magazine chick, she had an impact too! Most mag girls at the time where either very preppy blondes or Asians. I felt she had a goth/emo/alt vibe and that's probably half the reason I paid attention to that particular issue.

Turns out, she's still around and still hot... oh and is a body builder and pro 2A/Conservative. 19 year old me wasn't stupid even back then.

Smoking Hot for 42 years old.

Rice Devil - owned by Benson Hsu. Dude is still around. Old as shit, then again I guess I am too now...

That car in action, yes, that's what digital camera video looked like in 2002.

My love of mechanical things came from growing up holding the flashlight & handing tools to my Dad to maintain the cars in the driveway. Just practical family hauler stuff & nothing fast or exciting.

My oldest brother did have a really nice 70 Nova with a 230 CI inline 6 and a Powerglide for a few years while I was in high school. I had dreams of buying it & dropping in a small block or a big block but that never materialized.

Growing up, my Dad regularly took me to local car shows that were filled with American iron from all vintages.

As a young kid in our middle class neighborhood, there was a house a few blocks away that had a white Countach. When that thing rumbled down the street, I ran to the window and was immediately in love.

Then came posters of the Porsche 959 & Ferrari F40 to fit next to the Countach poster & the stacks of Hot Rod magazines.

Same torque as the 1970 LS6 Chevelle. 500 ft. lbs. Both were beasts on the street. A guy I worked with back in 1972 have a 1970 black LS6 Chevelle. He never lost a street race.

Weren't the 455s ~150 lbs lighter than the Chevy big blocks? I recall that they had a problem windowing blocks.
