Lets say they spent $50k organizing and buying all of those things.

For those $50k they published a video for free on youtube and in 6 days has over 22 million hits where they really got in to peoples feelings.
That's better spent money than what they would otherwise spend on a normal TV commercial they have to pay for everytime it airs.

And now with that they have many loyal customers.

Well played WestJet and a fantastic way to do it! Even though it was in the end, for your own profit it's the best way to do it!
