If anyone has any job leads in either the Houston. or San Antonio areas, let me know. I will also be looking for a place to live in the Tomball area since my house finally rented out after sitting vacant for 9 months. Ironically, that was just 1.5 months before I lost my job....

I need to get them out of my house so my family, and I, can live in our own home. I also need to find another job, but prospects are not so good for I.T. Managers these days.

Oh well, life is full of suprises.

 welcome to our world, man!

It's definitely hard out there, that's for sure.

When I became unemployed, the one thing I regretted was using the last of my savings to pay credit cards. I was in panic mode. So I ran out of money and unfortunately, all my cards went into default. So basically threw my money away. So, IMO, make sure you have your priorities straight, where your money needs to go from here on out. It's either to your unsecured debt or food for the table & family. This is only my opinion though.

Good luck out there

sorry to hear my friend. first thing is first, you need to lose any aspect of "I'm an IT manager you have in your mind." when things get better or you find one of those IT jobs, then by all means, use it. but you need to be prepared to shovel shit for the well being of your family. burger king. waste disposal. waiter. pizze guy. we all have hit bottom with careers before. your only option is to get back into something until you can climb back out of the hole. I wish you the best of luck. I work for the government as an IT specialist...currently deployed down in baghdad. I was willing to make the sacrifices to be here and I'm definitely glad I'm still here. bust your ass at whatever you have to to make ends meet for your family. don't be afraid to be cheap.

Welcome to the club, another IT guy currently without work. Here in Wichita everything revolves around aircraft and after all the ceo's got bashed by the government for having private jets Cessna, Bombardier (Learjet), Hawker Beechcraft, and Boeing many contract were canceled, new aircraft deployment was pushed back (specificaly Cessna's Citation Columbus) and nearly all announced layoffs. Spirit (formerly Boeing comercial here in Wichita) has not laid off anybody, but durring most of the year they have been on 3 day work weeks due to the Machinist strike @ Boeing.
Most companies here see IT personnel as "expendable", so the majority of companies outsource computer work to 3rd parties so they can easily control how much IT staff they need, and typicaly they are understaffed.
My last job I was flying across the country and helping install patient monitors in Hospitals. Gone for weeks from home, and only making 17 bucks an hour while being exposed to all sorts of interesting diseases.
I've thought of starting my own pc repair and consulting business but the market is flooded, and the price of new pc's makes people reluctant to fix their old ones.
So I'm looking for jobs based on my business minor and not my CS major. IT is just not stable, too many people and too few jobs.

Good luck with your search. I've been looking at office and clerical type jobs, any job that requires computer skills . I'm trying to get my foot in the door somewhere and perhaps get into an IT position later on.

Been five weeks for me. Had one offer but didn't take it. I am so glad we saved for so long or I would be in a panic.

I think about losing my job more then I should:shrug: A big reason is we have no surpassed the realm of 1 income viablility. We have enough bills, kids, toys that we need both incomes to survive comfortably.

I guess the good news is if my wife or I lost our job getting rid of a few toys would get is back one income land..........we'll see I sure hope it turns around for many.

FWIW, my brother in law is a security IT guy, and has job offers from all over. I'm have no clue about his credentials except to say he has a Bachelors in CS, 10 years military exp, and makes about 85k/yr contract.

Sorry to hear about your job. The IT market has been over-saturated for years and it's starting to catch up. I'd suggest checking your local and state government jobs. I work IT for the state and we've had no cutbacks and/or layoffs. Good luck in your search.

It is good to see I am in such good company :)

I am not in panic mode, but I am concerned since I have a family to care for.

I am looking at moving back to Houston, since I only came to San Antonio for the job I no longer have. I own a house in Tomball, but ironically, after 10 months of not being able to sell it, or rent it out, it did finally rent in February. Now I need it back....

My job search is going to be broad since I have a broad experience background. I only moved into I.T. in 1998 after my lungs got too bad for HAZMAT emergency response work. They were damaged in desert storm in 1991.

I have experience in Law Enforcement, Security, Security Management, HAZMAT, Incident Command, in addition to my I.T. experience (ITIL implemntation, Help Desk / Service Desk Manager, Call Center Manager, Escalation manager, etc.).

I am also looking into going into business for myself (or partnering with my brother). I already have the ground work layed on two options. It is no more risky than the "regular" job market these days.

I will keep you all posted on my progress, and if there is anything I can do to help any of you, please feel free to let me know :)

Lost my job last Friday, more or less due to the company slowing down. Been there for a bit over 3 years. This week is dragging... hoping to find work soon. I know how you feel man, I'll be pullin' for ya cause were all in this together.

I'm in the same spot you are. I certainly understand your situation. The good thing is that I have savings, a buyout package and no family. Good luck to you in your search.

Welcome to the club O.P. I've been out of work since early January. It's scary how many people I know who are out of work and can't find a job.

I am also looking into going into business for myself (or partnering with my brother). I already have the ground work layed on two options. It is no more risky than the "regular" job market these days.
That's what I'm doing. Investing with my family to buy an already existing business, less risk with greater rewards. There are a lot of good businesses for sale out there because people screwed their personal finances so bad they can't afford to keep their businesses running.

Sorry to hear.

It's defiantly scary even for us who have a job. I am in the IT field, while I try not to brag about it, my job seems to be secure due to the current project I am working on, but I know anything can happen. So I still even worry about getting that call into the office for a talk. I hope the best for those of you looking, and things pick up to get you back out there.

I own my own business and times are bad.

Since the peak it has dropped off 85%

All my friends ask me what I am going to do.

I let them know that I am finally able to pursue the career that I have always wanted.

Bum (retired).

Damn, I'm with you man. I lost my job a few months back and didn't get any calls for interviews even though I had very good work experience. I finally broke down and used a resume service and now I get many more interviews. Hope to get a job soon.

Welcome to the Club!

I lost mt contract at the end of January, hopefully I'll get another one soon, if not I'm trying to buy a shop, so I'll have something to do.

Job market is pretty poor right now, I hope you have some savings!

Well, I had a good phone screening for a position. I am hopeful there will be a follow up in the next few days.
