I gained 50whp/50tq with a full exhaust and cold air intake, and trapped 120mph before getting a tune. I know that my Boss is quicker on the street to 100mph (vs stock C6Z), no doubts. There is no loss in 'fun factor' going from a C6Z to a Boss (with a few minor bolt-ons to bring out some powa). I also felt the same way about my Shelby (except the horrible 1-2 grind, which is why i sold it), loved my Shelby just as much as my Z, and just as fun to drive.

In the end, life is too short to love one car. If the OP doesnt love his new Boss then he can always go back to 'another' Z06. For me, it was either buy my 3rd Z06 or buy a new Boss, easy decision.

not to change topics, but do you loose the side exits with a aftermarket exhaust?

I'd say congrats but I can't............don't agree with the move like many here......and this is a Ford site too.

Dealer isn't sure on my arrival date, their best bet right now is somewhere between April and June. I did come across a few dealerships that are wanting to charge markup, but after calling a few places I found one that wouldn't try to get more than msrp for it.

I appreciate the Boss tune/mods info, I'll have to look into that. First thing I'll do will be removing the side pipe baffle plates, probably will get a track key mainly for launch control, might eventually end up doing other mods.

I love the Z06, but I have a number of reasons for the trade. Like what was already said on here, I think life is too short and there are a lot of cars I'd like to try eventually (too many really, haha). I tend start getting bored of any given car after awhile (the 04 Cobra has been the car that I've kept the longest though - about 3 years). Beyond that though, I want a car that I really like to daily drive year round, is fun on the street, and still has good handling and power, and is good for track days. My Z06 has great performance numbers, and can shine on a race track, but out on the real world streets with rough surfaces etc, it just doesn't have the suspension tuned with enough compliance and travel to be ideal for me. And with the way street conditions and parking lot entrances are set up here in Colorado, the low ground clearance on my Z06 means than I have to tiptoe around a lot or has me feeling a little paranoid sometimes. The clearance and the wheel/brake sizes also mean I can't really put winter tires on it and drive in the snow. All these things have added up into me hardly driving the Z06, and it's become a garage queen. I want to daily drive a car that also has good performance. Yeah, I will get a 2nd set of wheels and winter tires and drive the Boss on most of the snow days here in Denver. My current winter car is a Miata with snow tires, it's the most fun winter beater I've ever had, and works well in the snow. There were some other things I don't like about the Z06, like the steering feel and the seats. I get my acceleration fix on my ZX10R, so I think I'll be fine losing some of the power to weight ratio of Z06 vs Boss.

As far as the GT500 goes - I do like those, especially what I've heard about the 2013, but prefer the lower weight, less nose biased balance of the Boss - and I think the naturally aspirated, high revving yet still pretty torquey power curve of the Boss will be awesome! Pretty much builds power all the way to almost 7700 rpm! Plus I've always thought the Mustangs have the best sounding American V8s... I think everything about the Boss will add up to a very well rounded, balanced, fun to drive machine. It'll probably be just what I'm looking for - if not, I'll just move onto the next car sooner. ;)

Actually, my 08Z (lighter then my 06Z) weighed in at 3080 and my Boss weighs 3510lbs :lol1:

You could definitely say that I've driven a Z06, and I know exactly what they are capable of. Let me know if I need to elaborate (drag strip vids/timeslips/street racing vids/etc).

I am not comparing a stock Z vs a stock Boss.

I don't know what to think anymore. I believe you, yet I can't quite wrap my mind around the idea that a minor bolt on boss can beat stock C6Z.

I had a 2007 Z06. I now have the 2012 Boss 302.

I agree with what Burnin said: The Boss is at least as much fun to drive around on the street because it flat puts the power down! I don't know why, maybe its the combination of the Torsen rear end, the decent stock tires, and the linear power curve, but the car rocks on the street. The short gearing in the trans, coupled with the 3.73 rear, and the torquey, revvy motor make it a blast on the street.

When I drove my Z06, it was hard to get any traction through 1st and 2nd. You could make it hook, but it took a high level of concentration. Furthermore, at the top of 2nd you were doing 90 mph when it finally did hook, which meant you couldn't enjoy the car really at all, as going 90 mph on a back road is going to be one heck of a ticket. By comparison, the Boss is more fun, to me, because I can hammer 1st and 2nd to 7,500 rpm and I'm only doing 60 mph or so before you shift to third. And believe me, anyone who thinks a car that has traction must be slow, they are not! That's what I was afraid of coming from a few other high powered cars before the Boss. All my other cars killed the tires from a roll, which actually got tiresome much to my shock and surprise. The Boss is the lowest HP car I've had in a long time, and honestly one of the funnest as it is so nicely balanced and once again, I can actually accelerate and not roast tires all the time.

The Z is an incredible car. I'd love to own another one someday. But overall the Boss will absolutely put the same size smile on your face every time you turn the key, despite being a little slower overall. I find as the years go on that going fast is a lot of fun, but a car must possess more than just flat out speed to fun ALL the time. The Boss makes the right sounds, has the right ride and handling, and looks awesome enough that it will push all the right buttons for any real car guy, no matter what brand loyalty they may have. I can definately relate to going from the Z to a Boss after having owned them both. The Boss is also a lot easier to live with than the Z too, due to the ground clearance and ease of getting into and out of.

So, OP, you WILL NOT regret owning your Boss. I guarantee it.

Maybe he wants a back seat to pick up more chicks or want to carry a cooler and a couple sets of clubs or it might be he is tired of his girlfriend wondering when the subscription to Viagra will show up or will his hemmroids start flaming caused by all the 14K gold corvette necklaces, sunglasses, and bracelets.

I think we need to stop bashing car enthusiasts, especially if they own American made with pride!

hahaha! Either you've got a good sense of humor, or you're very narrow minded - in which case I feel sorry for you. I'm 31, and got my first vette at 29.

Wow you guys may have just made up my mind...I am trying to debate between the Boss, GT500, and maybe the C6Z.

I myself drive a Miata with snow tires through the Winter and I can absolutely agree that it is the most fun winter car I have ever owned and I will not be getting rid of it.

I may call the dealer tomorrow and put my order in...

Awesome! Yeah, I'll probably keep my Miata a long time. Have you driven any of the 3, or cars similar to them? It took me awhile to decide, but between some test drives, and thinking about what I liked most about my previous cars, I picked the Boss. Good luck!

I have not driven anything except the Z06 and that is my whole problem.

I want to get in and compare the Boss to the 2012 GT500 w/ SVTPP but no dealers around here will let me drive either.

I would have to order the Boss which means no test drive, and any dealers that have them say absolutely none to keep the miles low. Any GT500 I have found has been inside and they are very reluctant to pull it out for a drive.

I really like the Boss but to match the power of the GT500 you would need to slap on a Procharger which is not a small mod. I probably would end up with just intake+exhaust which might get me 450whp which is still is about 50whp shy of the GT500 in stock form.

i need to get my sh!t together and find a better dealer. you'd think buying 2 cars from a dealer would get you something.

Some dealers just see $$$ when they think of the new limited edition cars. Same thing happened to a lot of guys for the 2012s. Just shop around and eventually you will find a dealer who will sell you a 2013 at sticker. It then is just a waiting game depending on what quarter allocation they are given by Ford.

Had a modded 04 Terminator with 550 HP. Only place I could use that much was at the Drag Strip. Otherwise it was a handfull and ate rear tires.
My 12 Boss is a better daily driver and all around better.

You really cant go wrong with any of those cars, all of them will put a big smile on your face. The "better" car is completely subjective. I loved my C6Z's, loved my Shelby (except the 1-2 grind and lack of traction), and I'm really enjoying this Boss. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns about any of those cars

I drove Burnin4's fast Z06 once and It was totally different than driving my GT500. If anyone has an opinion about how much fun to drive a z06 and a Boss or Shelby, I know I would trust his opinion.
