But I rarely hear those comments about driving in snow from anywhere but this forum. People from this area know that between Nov - April you don't drive something you plan to keep for very long!

Very true! Hell, I see trucks and cars around here that are only a couple years old that already have signs of rust on them! Salt is like a cancer!
