I'm pretty sure that the first one was an I6 not a V6. Anyway, an ecoboost mustang just balance out the gas mileage of the more powerful/smaller production mustangs meaning that the ones you drive can have more power without having to worry about gas mileage...

To each their own. My point stands, but I respect your opinions. Overall, it will depend on how many people feel how you do, or how I do. And that will be the tell tale on whether it was a good decision to put a 4 cylinder in a mustang once again...

...however, history doesn't paint a very good picture.

To say my GT500 wouldn't exist if not for 4 and 6 cylinder Mustangs...well you may have just made Carroll Shelby turn over in his grave as every Shelby owner would argue that one with you.

I have owned 4 cylinders, they had their place in my life. I have seen many a 4 cylinders out run a lot of V8s. But to me (again), it's not why most Mustang owners buy a Mustang. You look at the 87-93 Foxes, and you tell me who had more fun with them...the 4 cylinder crowd? Or ALLLL those Flowmaster equipped V8s.

I'm not running to my nearest Ford dealer for a "hot little 4 cylinder". And my "need for efficiency" was meaning auto companies having to fall under stricter fuel economies, etc. I knew exactly what I meant, as I'm the one who said it. If they truly need another car that gets 30 mpg so they can have more that don't, then they can sell Escorts again. So, with that being said...have fun with your 4 cylinder Mustang. If I ever bought one, (and I just may again some day) it will not be in a Mustang, I can guarantee you that.

Old man Shelby can keep turning over in his grave. The ecoboost-4 will be a great option for those who want their cake and eat it too. In 1966 alone for built 607,xxx mustangs majority of them are I6's, the thrifty models keep the brand alive keeping letting people experience Mustang without the shitty gas mileage and crazy insurance policies

Do those of you complaining about 4cyl Mustangs even understand how CAFE standards work? You wouldn't have a 662hp GT500 if there weren't Mustang models that could reach 30mpg. And if this 4cyl can get even better mileage then that leaves room for Ford to work with on their higher end Mustangs as it's all about averages.

So what is the reason the Viper?? I don't see 4 cylinder Vipers running around in order to have ones that carry that V10 monster under their hoods. Or much less, Ferrari's, Lamborghini's, Maserarti's, etc. Even bigger…where is the 4cylinder Camaro if it is such an issue????

Old man Shelby….

easy to say when the man has passed. Only the best Mustang improver to walk the planet. Go ahead…have your day. I can guarantee you this…he would NOT have anything to do with an overweight mustang with a 4 cylinder. Other car's maybe (though he hated it!) but not a mustang. Go ahead and argue that one.

To me, a flow master gt from 87-93 sounds good. Lots of different ones sound good on the 2 valves, and the new GTs...I haven't heard too many that sound bad . Just my opinion though. V6 New Edges however...I know they are just trying to sound like v8s when they dual those things out, but like I said way up there...to me, V6s were in the initial mustangs. So, they are what they are. 4 cylinders came out later...and I don't know a soul collecting 4 cylinder 74s, no matter how many they sold.

I go to the autocross and drag strips, and I see TONS of Hondas, STis, EVOs, etc all with turbo 4s turning ungodly amounts of horsepower. They all sound slightly different in my eyes (yes...I KNOW, they don't all sound the same), but to me, a 4 cylinder sounds nothing like a V8. And you want to talk about sounding like sex?? Ok, well I guess we all have different tastes. But I will take my Stainless Works 3" exhaust V8 sound any day over the others. But that's me.

What's next? 3 cylinder turbo Mustangs???

Of all the vehicles I've owned with aftermarket exhaust, my favorite by far was what I had on my '93 Mustang in the mid 90's. It made close to 570 to the wheels, had LT headers with 3" 3 chamber Flowmasters and a pair of Dynomax race magnum bullets. The bullets were only on there to kill the drone (only thing I hated about Flowmasters).

The single 3" exhaust I had on my track car ( '03 S2000) was quite nice, but man did it drone at 75 - 80 MPH.

All 3 of the car makers you posted all buy several millions of dollars in fines every year for fuel milage.

Fiat Chrysler offsets the Viper with cars like the Fiat 500 and Fiat 500e.

GM can make cars like the ZL1, Z/28, ZR1 with cars like the Volt, Cruze Ecodiesel and other fuel effeicnt cars but there will be a 4 cylinder 6th Camaro and there strong rumors to a hybrid C8 starting already.

You can bet, if he could brand it, merchandise it or in some other way make a dime off of attaching his name to you, he'd sure as hell would be all over it.

To piggy back off of your response, low volume manufacturers also get exemptions from the government. SRT is its own company but I am not sure if it still has the same requirements as dodge or gets exemptions like ferrari and lamborghini. Those low volume brands also have tightening requirements, they just get to play by different rules.
