Teachers can't proactively defend themselves. They gotta wait until the student strikes, for the most part. Defend yourself too aggressively prior to an attack and it can be construed as the teacher incited the attack instead of trying to diffuse the situation.

Teachers aren't allowed to protect themselves or discipline in any way. Teachers can basically pretend to have authority, but in many areas they don't.
This! I was just talking to a young teacher last week about violence in the classroom. Their hands are basically tied. Little support from superiors. Very little authority. And the students for the most part know this. Not a job I'd want.

yes but you're acting like the media portrays the truth.

Which we all know is NOT the case.

The teacher would never have a job again. But he got cold clocked, to his defense......

and you cant square up against a student. The hell kind of high school did you go to? hahahahah

How the media decides to portray things is not my concern. Im more concerned on how the principal / school would act / address one of their teachers being assaulted and the teacher proceeding to self-defend. I have to believe that no person of authority, would ever condemn one of their employees for merely defending from an attack.

If that is in fact the norm, I'd be happy to walk from that job/career field.

As far as where I went to school, I've experienced teachers that would grab a student by the neck collars and lifted them up against the green board, for acting like an inconsiderate **** in class.

Not nowadays, man. You'd be without a job so fast.

No one here is arguing that teachers shouldn't be able to. Its just there is no self accountability any more. The victim mentality is ingrained in public schools. Doesn't matter what crime you're doing, anyone who stops you or defends themselves against you is in the wrong.

Very sad. I have no hope for the future when it comes to stuff like this. Pretty soon we won't have teachers because of acts like this with zero support.

The only quality teachers will be in private schools that are able to discipline children. The way things keep going, a good education will eventually only be had from rich neighborhoods again.

My wife is a teacher and as far as I know, all a teacher can do is restrain the student or curl up into a ball when being attacked. Teachers cannot fight back in any way shape or form unless they want to get sued and lose their teaching license. I'll ask her tonight and see what she says.
Why on earth would someone consider a teaching job then? Totally not worth it.

you sure it was a teacher - he wears the same color uniform?.........and no one jumped the idiot? Nice city and he must have great parents (maybe they're in jail)
That looks like a much older man. No way he was one of the students. And by the looks of it he was sucker punched as well when he was trying to back away from a confrontation.

Sad but true. It's crazy how bad it's gotten in the last 20 years. I graduated high school in 1999, it wasn't that bad then.

It may sound selfish, but the way this country is headed, is just one reason why I won't bring any children into this world.

The last line(s) of your screen shot is what you need to pay attention to. A teacher doesn't have carte blanche to maintain "good order and discipline" in the class room. So they have to walk a fine line. One that the majority of administrators will not back the teacher. So most teachers take a passive stance to protect their job.

^^ thats the exact reason you NEED to bring children into the world.

Non-action from good, common-sense people is exactly what the other side is hoping for.
I agree with him but I definitely see your point. I too am never bringing children into this world it is far too gone for me and I am far too selfish.

Being a teacher isn't for everyone.

Edit: @ZYBORG - As mentioned, the teacher can only try to restrain a student or deal with getting knocked around. For my wife's school, if there is a child acting out and being disruptive, they will call in backup to help escort the student safely away. Teachers cannot square up and knock heads or do flying round house kicks unless they want to lose their jobs or spend time in jail.
