I agree it's an interesting bit of history. I did not know GM bought them and then shut them down.

IIRC, this somewhat financially irresponsible chap, with one of the most innovative automobiles ever produced, was shutdown by GM, Ford, & Chrysler as well.

Tucker innovations:
- sleek shape
- third, centered headlight, which swiveled to light the way around corners.
- fenders that pivoted defensively when the car turned.
- disc brakes.
- pop-out windshield (designed to eject during a crash, protecting passengers).
- a rear engine.
- padded dashboard.

Tucker was kinda like the "Carroll Shelby of production cars".

Had the good fortune to actually see one in person. They are truly magnificent.

Didn’t they make a movie about Tucker?

I've seen one of em' too!

Lemay car collection by Spanaway. I really wish I was born in the late 30s. The innovation at the time and being able to try new things and new designs. Now EVERYTHING is governed to conform.

Here's the Tucker I saw in Madison, WI at the start of the 2015 Hot Rod Power Tour.

Some of those old castle structures are mind blowing when you consider the difficulty in just getting the materials up there on the tops of mountains.
