That's precisely why my sister and husband decided not to adopt a gal from China. My sis cannot have children due to numerous medical reasons so they looked into adopting a child from China. But when they sat down and did critical analysis they realized they had no way of knowing what the kid's medical history was.
You have a husband from China?

Everyting makes sense now.

Reading the whole thread I have thought of some more things.

-My entire family is known for skating rinks. It started way back in the 30s/40s with my great grandfather who owned a two story dance hall on the Redondo (Washington, not California) pier that had a skating rink on the top floor. Unfortuantely, it burned down in an arson event but my family built more rinks and we had at the most 6 and there are 5 around the state now. My parents got out of the business around 2004 which was probably the biggest mistake they ever made. Poor business and life decisions made after getting out of the business now leaves them without a retirement. My hope is that I can have my own business at some point while they are still alive that can provide them a good retirement.

-With the whole skating thing, my dad used to coach the speed team and he had a number of people that he coached and taught that went onto become Olympic gold medalists and podium finishers with the most notable being Apollo Anton Ohno. He is a few years older than me but I raced and competed the same time he was skating for us. JR Celski is the most current Olympian to come out of our old rink and he was coached by my uncle, but I remember when he had just started skating at like 5 years old. I would guess there are at least half a dozen that have come out of our rink to go onto the Olympics for ice.

-When I was 7 we were at Nationals for speed skating in Philadelphia and I remember being at this vendor stand with my mom that was inside the arena where the meet was being held. Being a small kid I remember looking up eye level to this stranger's waist, like a foot away, and all I see is this silver stub nose revolver. In this packed arena and with at least 7 or 8 people there at the stand also he was holding it low to his side and it was pointed at the vendor as he demanded the cash from them. It happened really fast and neither my mom or dad ever acknowledged it to me which Im guessing was to shield me from any trauma? It didnt even register to me at the time what the guy was doing so I didnt care at all. Come 25 years later I think of it randomly while Im with my mom and I ask her about it and she says "you remember that!?" She didn't think I would have remembered it because later that day I fell off a railing about 10ft high and smacked my head on the concrete floor giving me a concussion. Philly was absolutely ridiculous though. We almost got mugged 3 times while we there on top of be present during a robbery.

These two are pretty good because they are probably my two biggest **** ups in life lol. Long post, I know, but I cant help but tell long stories.

-Got kicked out of high school my junior year for partying. Went to a private school and was a typical teen that partied like everyone else. Except at this party someone took photos and shared them to a private album online. This other kid at the school who was actually the son of the owner of the owner of a major trucking company out here thought it was wrong for us to be partying so he sent the pictures to the principal. 6 of us got called in with our parents and they showed our parents the photos which some of them included my best friend and his gf in their underwear and as they were fooling around. All of our parents were livid at us but also the school for keeping the photos of half naked children and showing them to all the parents. Turns out that it was considered child pornography and the police came down on some of the people who sent the photos and distributed them but Im not sure to the extent of what happened to them. Home schooled with my buddies the rest of the year and we were allowed back the next year to graduate. It was actually a great time doing the home schooling so it turned out well for the most part.

My other big **** up was in the Marine Corps. I was still pretty fresh and a Lance Corporal and I was at CQB School (Close Quarters Battle) which at the time had an 80% attrition rate and was probably the hardest school to get through at the time. It is an 8 week course with 3 weeks of straight marksmanship training and then 5 weeks of tactics and room clearing. Out of 30 students only 4 of us passed the final day qual, me included. You only get two tries to qual so me and 3 others passed in those two tries. Because of the low outcome they had to run a third time in which all but like 3 or 4 guys passed. I breezed through tactics, only accruing one safety violation (can only have 7 and they are easy to get), but then comes the last week of school and the final quals to pass the school; you pass the qual you pass the school. The day before qual I get a call from my command and my current squad leader. All of my seniors are leaving for new commands when my class returns so they are relying on us to fill the ranks and take over a special operations platoon. He tells me "When you pass and come back you are heading of to Breacher School and then will come back to take over as squad leader for me." I'm like "Holy shit!", so what do I do? I completely blow the qual out my ass. Three tries and I failed it on some of the most ridiculous things that never should have happened, like perfectly shooting a target 2 to the chest, 1 to the head except that target was a guy holding a cell phone and not a pistol. The mind **** was real and the pressure got to me and I failed the school. They sent me back the following class in which I breezed through and passed because there was no pressure to become squad leader after that. Turns out the paperwork that was submitted for the first class had me down as a pass, and so with the second passing of the school I rated an instructor qualification, so it turned out better in the end.

Very similar circumstances we were in. I was climbing a swingset when I slipped and fell. On the way down, the nail caught at the V and ripped my arm open. No pain and didn't realize anything had happened until 5 or so seconds had passed and my arm felt hot.
Screamed bloody murder to the house and my dad started to ask if I was stung by a bee until he saw it. Immediately yelled for my mom to call 911.
They put the 26 stitches internal and stapled the outside. Still a very impressive scar.
Wow, yes, very similar on how we both got "ripped open". Crazy.
I have a nice scar, but I imagine yours is way worse.

All the major news networks including the Pentagon Channel did a story on a little girl I diagnosed with a VSD in Iraq. I attempted to get her the surgery she needed but died in Jordan on July 4, 2008 due to political games.

In 1997 I inadvertently, indirectly and accidentally shot my combat firearms course instructor. While shooting an iron target, a round struck the target, you heard the loud tink, then we heard a ZzZZzzfffiip and my instructor was about 15 feet to my right. Next we hear my instructor make an Uuhhggh sound and drop to his knees clutching his chest. He wasnt wearing a protective vest. The round fragmented and a piece zipped back and hit him in the chest plate bone. Just barely breaking the skin. He was ok and not hurt bad. Just shook up. 3 years prior he was shot in the face. Bullet entered his mouth and exited back left side of his neck. He fully recovered from that. He always wore a vest after that.

Reminds me of a night range we were doing in infantry training doing buddy rushes. This mouth breather to my right had a 249 SAW and I had just made a rush in front of him when I hit the dirt and saw a burst of rounds trace the ground about 5ft across my path. I stopped and looked over and I see the the instructor run over to him and slam his face in the dirt and then proceed to pick him up and carry him for the next two rushes while slamming him down on the ground as he was screaming at him. Another time I was down range with a few other Marines when a volley of 240s opened up, not seeing us down range. Luckily we were off to the right a little so none of the guns were aimed directly at us but we all hit the dirt immediately and had to check our underwear after lol.

Now that I think of it, I almost got shot in CQB school too! Lol. We entered to the side of the long narrow room and this guy was the 2 man going left, my buddy was the one man that went right, and me as the 3 man went right with my buddy as he had more room. The guy swept the room all the way from left to right and shot out of his sector which ended up being a shot that passed a foot away from me and my buddy's heads. It was bad because we didnt know he was going to take the shot because it was absolutely clear that he wasn't supposed to. He got thrown into a few walls by the instructors for that one, but he was a moron too. ND'd while cleaning his rifle in ITB. Went through a wall locker in the barracks and almost hit another guy.

Wow. Both stories deserve an ass beating.
