Hi all,

I come mainly from the LSx crowd as I've owned several LS Fbodies, a C5z and a C6 LS2. That said, I've also owned an 03 cobra (pullied, bolt ons) and a 13 5.0, stock.

Im looking to get something next spring, and have it narrowed down to a few. 07-09 GT500, 11-12 GT500 and C6Z.

One other thing, my wife and I recently had our first child, so... I'm kind of leaning away from the C6Z at this point in time due to zero back seat. I know that the other two don't have much of a back seat to speak of, but it's at least an option for a car seat with a wife who's only 5' 1".

I understand that from a performance standpoint, the C6Z is pretty far out ahead of the GT500's, heads/cam they don't seem to have much of a problem going low 10's at high 120's low 130's in the quarter. Thats kind of my goal. I won't be road racing, I'm more interested in fun and enjoyment cruising around town and the occasional trip to the dragstrip.

So, goals being low 10's at 130+, is that something that the GT500's are reasonably capable of, without extensive modification? If so, which would be the better platform to start from between the 07-09 and the 11-12? The nice thing about the 07-09 is that they are about $5,000 to $10,000 cheaper to start with and in my opinion they actually look a bit better...

Just wanted to get some of you guys' thoughts.

Thanks

As far as what you can do with pulley swaps and such, the cars are capable of it, but you REALLY need to be on your driving game. @IronTerp gets his M122 equipped 07-09 GT500 down the track in the 10 second range.

Biggest thing is obviously a smaller pulley, tune, intake. But what will REALLY pay you dividends are cooling mods. 170 degree t-stat, dual fan triple pass heat exchanger and an intercooler pump upgrade.

A set of FRPP 3.73's or even better 4.10s will really wake your car up.

The only real downside is that 07-09 do NOT have knock sensors. A company called Vampire makes a wire in knock control system so not all is lost!

Any 07-12 car will run 10s and 130+ with less than $5k in mods. 2.3 TVS and supporting mods will do it all day long.

Find the cleanest, lowest mileage car you can for the least money. I owned an 07 and LOVED it. Made 643 whp with about $3500 worth of parts. However I prefer the looks of the 11-12 and like that the 11-12 cars came with factory widebands making them easier to tune.

11-12s also have aluminum motors which are more expensive to build/replace, but theyre about 100 lbs lighter.

Honestly... for the price.. it's really tough to beat an 07-09. 07's could not be had with HID headlights which pissed me off since I found that out after I bought my 07. 08+ could be equipped with HIDs.

You're better off getting a 11/12 IMO, they're lighter, and very easy to tune. With a TVS, some fuel upgrades, exhaust and a clutch 10s @ 130s isn't to hard, oh and get a good shifter.

'11-'12 Shelby with Performance Pack option is probably the better deal if you can find one for around a $28k-$33k price point.

Yea like everyone else said 11-12 Performance pack is where its at. That was originally what I was after but came across a good deal on my 13.

I believe allkeinz went 9.8x at 142 or so with a basic bolt on 13 on race fuel. Don't think it would get too hard to replicate that if you can drive

Going with any 07-12, A TVS swap will cost about $4k to get you right around 700RWHP on pump gas and be well into the low 10s. Go with whatever year you like the looks of the best and can get the best deal on, technically 11-12s are better overall but not by a whole lot over the knock sensors and widebands (which you can just go get a good dyno tune for an 07-10 and be fine without them)

Ah hahahaa. Yeah.. not quite.

#1 he is damn near a pro driver and goes BALLS DEEP in all of his builds. No stone unturned, NO EXPENSE spared. #2 the air he races in is damn near perfect. No DA issues where he runs.

Do not think for a second that you can strap on the same blower as him and run the same times. Nope.

He also weighs 400lbs. It’s definitely doable. Plenty of people have been 9s with stock longblocks

Didn’t say it wasn’t doable. I said it wasn’t likely.

Jesus could come back to earth tomorrow too. Not likely, but it could happen.

Run yours and report back to us.

Post up a mod list to reach 700hp for $4,000
Subing to see

13/14 Trinity with 2.4 Pulley and BPS elbow $1750 (This is for sale on here currently, used low mileage)
VMP boost a pump $400
DW95s $600
Twin 67mm or Mono $500ish or less
123mm CAI of choice $250ish used
HE of choice $400-800 depending on the deal you find

Again this might not get you over 700 but it will get you at least 675+ depending on fuel quality of your pump gas and tune etc.

^ thanks for taking the time out to list it. I just think that's a very low budget though

The content below is from a thread awhile back that was similar to this one. Actual costs that I incurred. Mind you, this is power only. Takes a good bit more to get it to the ground. Currently running 10.90's with the factory Eaton setup.

Actual cost analysis/comparison:

Factory M122 Eaton Setup
- (Produced 609 RWHP,578 RWTQ)
Posi ported M-122 Eaton...................$400
VMP 67mm throttle body...................$480
Port matched L &M plenum................$180
Autoliberte 2.40" upper pulley............$160
JLT 123mm CAI................................$290
Magnaflow Axleback..........................$423
MRT off road H pipe..........................$100
NGK BR7EF Spark Plugs.....................$18
Lund Custom Tune............................$250
Total.............................................$2,301

Trinity 13/14 2.3 TVS Setup
- (Estimate 660+ RWHP, 600+ RWTQ)
Trinity Supercharger.........................$1,500
VMP 67mm throttle body...................$480
BPS 2.40" upper pulley..................,...$85
JLT 123mm CAI................................$290
Magnaflow Axleback..........................$423
MRT off road H pipe..........................$100
NGK BR7EF Spark Plugs.....................$18
VMP Dual Boost a Pump.....................$400
Ford 13/14 56 lb Injectors.................$170
Lund Custom Tune............................$650
Total.............................................$4,116

Notes:

- All parts listed above, I have purchased and are actual costs. Trinity is sitting on the desk in my office. Nice conversation piece...
- Obviously, don't "have" to buy throttle body or exhaust. But why run either of these two blower setups and choke them to death.
- Also have a 10% lower and long tube headers ($1,540) that can/could be installed on either setup. The Trinity setup would undoubtedly reap more benefit from these modifications.
- Conclusions: The Eaton can hit the 600 RWHP level for significantly less money. Going the Trinity route in the future will cost me $1,815 more and produce 50+ more RWHP. And for another $1,540, can probably come pretty darn close to 700.

Yup and it was a pretty basic combo. If you get a 07-12 you can go 9s with about $8k in mods. That includes everything plugs/tires/wheels tune etc... You can do the same in a 13/14 with ~6k.

This. You can make over 700 RWH all day, but if you don't have the car set up to plant it, you'll never rip the 60 foots that you need to get into the 10s. Suspension, gears, and tires can easily exceed the cost of the bolt on motor mods.
