My 03 Cobra vs. friends new 2013 GT500

My 03 made 475 SAE rwhp with a Steggy stage 4 and 2.73" upper, 2 lb lower. Trapped 123 mph. I have raced 2 bone stock '13 GT 500's and they both got me by .5 -1.5 cars. I am seeing stock '13's running 124 -125 mph, so makes sense. I think dyno's vary enough that you see some ported Cobra's making over 500 and some under. An unported making over 500 SAE rwhp I would think is a very generous dyno.

how can a 13gt500 with 600 whp cant outrun an 03 cobra with around 450whp?

First off he doesn't have 450whp.... it says it in his mod list what he has and he has close to 525whp because he has a ported blower and a lower pulley with the upper pulley. So the fact he weighs lighter plays into effect and he probably went against a crappy driver... even if it wasn't a crappy driver his car is stout as hell and I could see him hanging in there for a lot longer then just a upper pullied car.

his car doesnt make 525 and only trap 122. My car made 507 on a dyno and trapped 130-132 every pass.

I am quoting his mod list with his numbers. Dynos are irrelevant use a mustang dyno, use a dyno jet totally different numbers. Its nice for tuning. His car is running stronger then an upper only cobra is my point. It is not only 450whp so the number he said he makes is the number I put down.

With a port and upper only maybe, but with a port, upper and lower they do exceed 500.

With a stage 6 port, 2.80 upper only i was at 540rwhp with the 97 cobra cams.

I do see it being close, the 200lb weight difference, the GT5000 having heavier wheels, also the gearing of the GT500 is also a dis-advantage. Sure the GT500 has about 80 hp but i guess it wasn't enough. Now if they would have ran a little higher like 160mph the gearing advantage would've been with the gt500. The Gt500 still would be in 4th but the cobra would have to shift into 5th.

I would sure hope so. It has a much larger engine and a much larger blower and 10 years newer. I would hope with similar mods it would walk the 03 cobra.

Alot actually. Why do people care about losing 10 lbs on a hood? Or 5lbs on a wheel? or 40 lbs on a seat.

.33 drag on 03 Cobra .38 drag on a 13 GT500. There are SOO many other variables that Favor the 03 Cobra.

But driver mod will increase the gap.. by even more. :poke:

In summary.. get use to the 03/04 Cobra's killing the 13 GT500's with little mods. Remember in stock trim the 03 Cobra out performed the stock 07 GT500 in straightline performance. 2008 Shelby GT500 vs 2003 SVT Cobra. - YouTube

It only takes 10 HP to make up 100 pounds. People that cut weight cut as much as they can. They are not going to overlook 5 pounds here, 5 pounds there. They are looking for the sum total.

My buddy just bought a 2013 GT500 this past summer. It felt puny as hell compared to my GT500. I guess I was expecting a little more, but I am used to my power level.

I just did a bunch of mods for him. I installed a set of 1-7/8 Stainless works long tubes with their 3" x-pipe, Magna Flow 3" catback, JLT CAI, Cobra Jet oval TB, 15% over drive harmonic dampener and loaded a Jon Lund tune. Damn it woke that sucker up. It didn't pull quite as good as my GT500 but it was not too far off. At 60 mph in second it would blow the tires with just throttle. I have a 3.6 KB on my GT500. I was damned impressed compared to the way it pulled to mine. Not enough to go buy one but that car would suck the butt ugly off a ZL1 and the plastic off a ZR1.

Troll much? I believe the OP was stating how a 10 year old car with likely

240 HP stock difference in power can be made to beat(likely terrible GT500driver ) a newer GT500.

I think many of us would like to run at a 13 GT500...doesn't mean our cars are suddenly the schiznit...you sound like a import troll

Like all the people on the webz say I've been around the V8 scene for a while, LS brand and modular brand. I did get a 135i (was looking at a 5.0 and 302 but never bite the bullet thanks BS local dealers) since some Dbag in a Lightning wanted to text while driving then rear end me, anyways.

But if you can't see that Terminator owners think that car was blessed by the hand of God and nothing can compare to it, then you havne't "trolled" the board much.

Anything can be beat because of the driver, as they say, you beat the driver not the car. But the OPs car does close to 600BHP with a bit of a weight advantage '13 GT500 plus trapping close to the same as a '13 GT500. So what do I know.....anyone who sheds facts must be a troll. At least that is what I'm seeing.....
