Don't overthink this. NOBODY here knows exactly why you've been invited to a mentoring meeting, nor what the meeting might be about. Don't dwell on worst case reasons, nor best case reasons. Treat it as an employment opportunity since you just had a very positive performance evaluation. Go to the meeting with a clear, open mind, and see where it goes.

If you are a **** up, your immediate supervisor is usually the hammer.

I’d take this as a good sign. Do t sweat it. Get your mind right for discussing a future.

I've had more jobs than socks. Based on that & you saying you got a perfect score on a performance eval, I'd say this is good news if you're looking for your career to advance.

How it advances & in which direction may be the ultimate question...

...and is that something you're even interested in.

Hope it works out for you.

Great point. I got offered management with Ryder Systems when I was driver/lead driver. After hearing the options and talking to my old manager who got transferred, I bailed.

Regarding the timing........if you were getting the hammer, the meeting wouldn't be scheduled a month from now. It'd be same day.

If you were being placed on a PIP, you'd find out during your annual review.

Keep up the good work!

I've been a manager twice in my career. There won't be a third.

I'm happily back in a role where I'm just a cog in the wheel.

Yep…it’s nice. The opportunity and fit would have to be near perfect for me to take another manager role, at least right now. Being a manager in corp IT/Data is no fun.

The only reason I took a manager role again was because I make my own schedule

….. I’ve had to make it 24:7

Same here, except I could be talked into it again... maybe.

Yup, being in IT as a manager means I'd basically also be potentially on call at some point whereas now as an Architect only I have no responsibility work wise after I'm done for the day.
I'm searching for a new "individual contributor" role. lol

Eff being a manager for the same money.
I'd never do it for the same money, but where I am in my career as an IC I'm fairly maxed out at the architect level. My pay might increase some year over year but not like it could going back into leadership. That is another can of worms though entirely.
