I had the Kooks on my car but took them off the last time I had a leak. The ceramic ones started to rust at the Collector so I just decided to keep them off the car. The sound was loud as all hell and they did create good TQ numbers. As far as the install. Its not that bad actually. If you get the cheat sheet from JDM in what order to put them in its easy. It can be done without dropping the K member or removing the starter. The only thing is to take off the Intake tube up to the TB. On the drivers side its easier to take off the oil filter and remove the battery. this makes it a lot easier to access the headers. I have replaced several gaskets on both the driver and passenger side to know what Im talking about. No need to Drop the K or lose the Starter. It just complicates things. Just get the cheat sheet from JDM and your all set... Black03

I Did It!

The JDM/Kooks headers should be here early next week, i hope.

i am getting 1 3/4" Stainless Stepped LT Headers with 3" Collector to mate up to a 3" O/R X-Pipe (prolly will get their catted h though) the into QMP 3" Stainless cat-back.

:read: I talked to a guy at JDM and he wrote me up some directions for the install of the LTs

start on the passenger side

passenger side...
1. 1st tube to install ---> 3rd from front
2. 2nd tube to install ---> 4th from front
3. 3rd tube to install ---> 2nd from front
4. 4th tube to install ---> 1st from front

-tighten to 40 ft/lbs

drivers side...
1. 1st tube to install ---> 2nd from front
2. 2nd tube to install ---> 3rd from front
3. 3rd tube to install ---> 1st from front
4. 4th tube to install ---> 4th from front

-tighten to 40 ft/lbs

-tighten all tubes to 60 ft/lbs

-tighten all tubes again to 70 ft/lbs

-line up tubes and put on collectors

-done :beer:

one of their other guys told me to remove the inner fenders and starter also. :??:

we'll see...

VIDEO...Kooks long tubes off road X magnaflow cat back right click save as

I have them.... love them.. with them on.....one word....LOUD wake the dead type LOUD

how are they to install... do you have a lift...? then its nto to bad

I had to remove the K memeber, lower the motor

took about 24 hour worth of work could do again in about 16

the install of headers sucks

If i had to do again i would have got a tubular K memeber while i had it apart

IMO if you can install these you can do anything on a mustang short of tearing down the short block

I have heard or read that Kooks LT's are hard
to install, scrape under the car, rust, don't give big
hp and tq numbers and may leak.
Otherwise, go for it.

Hard to install yes

scrape.. not mine

rust? the non stanless ones did but they dont make them anymore

do they add HP and TQ buy them selfs no or atlest not on a dyno

do they make the car more efficient yes

if your at 13 lbs of boost and put them on there is a good chance that you will lose 1-.5 lbs of boost

and make the same numbers...what happens if you put the boost back in

you get a littl more hp and tq

power

Im not reading much here about power. Are they worth the $ for the power you gain?

I wouldnt just get headers for sound.

Vector makes a very valid point, I think you should take what he says to heart.

Yes, it is hard....18hrs on my back hard. The last 6-8hours was spent trying to figure out hot to get the starter back in. PS - I didnt lift the motor or drop the K-member. But if I did it again Id drop the K-member, save an easy 10+hours

Even though I added mine at the same time as a mid-pipe and cat back, the low end TQ and top end HP gains were rediculous. Peak HP shifted from 5900 to 6400 (where it gained 50rwhp), Peak TQ shifted from 3750~ to 3250 (where it gained 45rwtq), boost dropped aproximately 1 psi, car runs smoother, and it traps about 2-3mph higher than 03s with like mods minus Longtubes.

They only leak if you did the install wrong.

You had better take a look at the last issue or so of MM & FF magazine. Richard Holdener did some dyno tests with long tubes on our motor...and I think they were Kooks if I'm correct...and the results were surprising. The ran a set of 1 5/8 against a set or 1 3/4. The smaller tubes were better all the way around...even on modded motors. I would think that a set of stepped headers from 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 would bring some very interesting results.

Ahhh, I'd LOVE to do headers!! You'd think that with all the time and effort SVT put into this motor, they would have put on something better then they did!!!! The stock manifolds are gay.
