I’ll keep it from being too long winded here but I just completed my first solo flight last week. It’s by no means the end of the trip as I am pursuing my commercial rating but let me tell you..... it was ****ing amazing to fly by myself even if it was pattern work! I have a video of my take off but it was nothing spectacular. Regardless, if this is something you have been wanting to get after all I can say is just ****ing do it!

Nice 172 just needs the wheel skirts as I always think they are cleaner looking than the wheel only types. But my I suggest if you can find one a O-2/ 337 as you can have your single engine rated license and own and operate them as they are a dual engine frame. Always liked them and you can not mistake them for anything else out there.

Awesome man. Definitely don’t stop pursuing your commercial license if that’s what you really want.

Congratulations OP! Awesome sense of accomplishment. I remember my son doing his first nighttime flight calling and telling me to be at the local airport runway at 0 dark 30. We managed to park at the end of the runway very few lights, then zap! All the runway lights turn on...he lands and taxis to a hangar I was working on. Proud moment for a dad with his younger brothers looking on. Unforgettable!

That's great! Congratulations. A close friend of mine has been flying commercially for decades. He just retired a couple of months ago as 60 was a mandatory retirement. He's flown pretty much everything, and internationally. It's in his blood! LOL. He just signed on with a new business that is developing a drone service to radically cut down delivery time of medical supplies and body parts, etc. My buddy would fly the drone in a plane to a location and launch the drone to deliver critical supplies to hospitals, etc. It's quite an innovation and should be running within the next couple of months.

Definitely pursue your commercial license. There are a lot of upcoming opportunities for you. And also enjoy many, many hours of pleasure flying.

Don't forget modified planes are a huge business. No point in being as slow all other birds in the sky when a few custom engine parts can have you soaring with the eagles.

Congrats man its always a freeing moment the first time you take off by yourself knowing the skies the limit.

Awesome. I have two sons who live in Florida, (not close to each other) and have a great life here in WV and do not want to move. So I started down the same journey Aug 2019. Got my PPL in Sept of 2020.

Sold the GT350 after the purchase of my 1978 Grumman Tiger and I love it. IFR is next for me after tax season.

For those who asked the license is probably $8k to 10K depending on how fast you learn. I was in no hurry as I truly want to be proficient and had 100 hours at my checkride.

I have flown 172s, a Cherokee 140, a Warrior II and a Cheetah as well as my Tiger. Real planes have canopies!!!!

Cars $
Boats $$
Planes $$$

Talk about a whole world of expenses I can’t even begin to entertain.

I’ll stay on the ground and maybe venture to the water when I’m older.

Congrats though for sure.

Thank you all for the encouragement!! I am blessed in that the GIBill is paying for this. It’s a part 61 school, so with that said while I’m doing the flying stuff, I am also cramming in 16-18 credits of college per semester. It’s not easy, but it is sure worth it.
