Same could be said for Harvey right? Victims lived in an area prone to hurricanes. If they didn't want to be afflicted they should have lived somewhere else. Darwinism at work here as well right? Those afflicted aren't accurate gauges for feelings.

The same can not be said, no. Maybe we can continue the discussion about the incident in question rather than some sort of MD or whatever you are trying to do.

Ok, got it. This I a high 5 thread for you. And a head shaker for most others.

I'm a realist. These juvenile delinquents decided their fate. These clowns did something most others will never do. Period. I'm just glad the cop wasn't injured.

I'm on topic. Since you decide what counts as a tragedy, we needed to clarify what the standard is.

Yes like a 1996 Escort Lx with 1.9L I4 and 3 speed auto. That would be a start instead of lets find the most biggest and powerful engines out there. I would have a real hard time allowing anything with 250 HP or more at the crank for any 15 to 16 YO to start driving in.

I had a 1994 Escort as a daily driver for 2 years. Best $300 I ever spent! 88hp of fury. Spent $12 in maintenance on it in the 2 years, other than oil changes.

As far as I can tell 1 juvenile decided the fate of 4 other juveniles.

I've been in a car when a "friend" drove well over 90 on a back road, and the seatbelts were broken. I screamed for him to let me out repeatedly, but he just continued to drive like an asshole.
As soon as he stopped, I got out and walked to the nearest pay phone to call my parents to pick me up. Never drove with that asshole again.

My point is, maybe those other kids didn't get the chance to get out at a red light.

Hurricane victims could not control the weather but alll five kids did control their fate, right?

A tragedy, to me, is becoming a victim through no fault of your own.

I already mentioned hurricane victims control where they live.

They control where they live but they do not control the weather nor can they blame anyone for the weather unlike the event in question where the parents are blaming others for the actions of their children. A natural disaster can happen anywhere whether you are coastal, inland, etc.., Driving a vehicle (by what means it was obtained is unknown) knowing you are unlicensed and having the passengers know the driver is unlicensed is all on them and is almost a sure bet for something bad to happen.

The parents are not thinking rationally as evidenced by blaming the police. Their opinions are rather tainted by grief which is why one must take their thoughts with a grain of salt.

I don't have a dog in this fight, but let me try and clarify the point he's trying to make. I will use people living in tornado alley. They know the place is prone to destruction. Hell, it's named tornado alley. And still people make the decision to bring their whole family there to live. When a tornado comes through and completely levels a town, I'm left feeling like they should have known that this was a strong possibility and they shouldn't have left their family and valuables to those odds.

We really don't have a lot of details for me to form a solid opinion. I will say that I have done some stupid stuff when I was younger. And I knew a few people in my group of friends that I would try to avoid because they were always up to no good. We don't know if the passengers were given a chance to avoid the situation.

What I hope this incident does for the parents reading this is to stop and ask yourself if you know where your kids are and who are they with.

choosing where you live is not the same as driving like a maniac and crashing. Natural disasters can occur anywhere, even if certain areas are more prone to or have a history of. Although living in one of these areas is a choice, it's not relative to what happened on the video.
The simple fact is whomever was driving the car was extremely reckless. The police officer observed reckless behavior and tried to stop the car to prevent injury or loss of life. no one knows what was going on inside that car. The passengers could have been begging for the driver to stop or encouraging him to keep going. This incident could be broken down and analyzed many times over. We don't know who the parents are or how they parent thier child. I place the blame on the driver of the car..period. He was driving and it was his responsibility to keep his occupants safe, regardless of what they say. His inexperience in life cost him and others thier lives. His parents could have given the best guidance raising him, but you cannot completely control another human.
How many of us can look back on things we have done and thank God we somehow survived? These youths just were not filed in the lucky category. But you cannot point fingers at others when the blame doesn't fall on them.

It's not what I think. It's the results form areas that have enacted the law. I had a a suggestion to curb this type of repeated tragedy. What's yours?

This doesn't even make sense. Enacted what law? A maximum occupancy law? I don't see how that would change this in the slightest. How does one even measure how affective this type of law is?

A fair number of states are putting restrictions on how many teenagers can be in their car while driving. they have shown that the more kids in the car with a teenage driver the more distracted the driver is. putting limits on young drivers has been shown to be effective. as to how EFFECTIVE it is can be measured by a decrease in the number of accidents the drivers have over time.

So people that disregard the law are somehow going to start caring about it because another is created? Hardly.

More passengers in any vehicle regardless of driver's is going to be more distracting. That's not even what I'm arguing.

Has your resume of stupid stuff included anything comparable to unlicensed and under aged driving with a car full of clowns while leading the police on a chase reaching speeds well over the limit followed by a crash and burn?

What these boy geniuses did is well beyond the stupid card.

That is exactly what you are arguing in the post I replied to. Perhaps you should read what you wrote if you did pay attention to what you were typing. And then actually read what I posted again since it provides a direct answer to you question. Your discounting proven stastics just shows you don't really want answers so it may be a waste of you time anyway
