Both the Xbox and the PS3 are pretty comparable in capabilities. Figure out what games you want to play and buy the console that plays them.

Ok, fine. 360, if you're not concerned with the $60-a-year online fee.

You can't go wrong with either a PS3 or Xbox 360. The wii blows IMO

There will be a lot of differing opinions. I have a 360 and love it but both consoles (PS3 and 360) are solid. I've played both, and I prefer the online community on the 360 and I think the graphics are a bit better. Go to Best Buy and try out both, go with which one you like better.

Its all personal preference. There will be nutswingers on both consoles. I prefer ps3 but have nothing against a 360, just like ps3 better. I also use it for more than gaming which the 360 cant do so it was an easy choice for me.

It will actually come down to the exclusive games and control. Forge which one offers the better graphics, etc, they both look GREAT!! Hell, I play regular 2D games on my phone and enjoy every single minute as long as it's fun. The PS3 offers a bit more with the blue ray and web browser but other than that, they are very similar. The dashboard and the PlayStation cross crap whatever you call it are just for nerds wasting their time on showing how pretty their avatars look, I just put the game in and PLAY. Which one is easier, 90% of the settings are put it ONCE and you nnever really have to deal with again, whoever try argue with this is just a fan boy and being bbiased. Check out the exclusive games O.P and control, if you want a blu ray and shitty but useable web experience, get the ps3.

PS3 has weaker internet service but nothing to bitch about, you will spend a whole lot less time than waiting for a stupid snack or drink at the movies. If you want a better internet network 360 will work, don't mind the price, you probably spend more in a week on useless crap than a year service.

I have a 360 and a Wii, and as cool as the Wii was when I first bought it, the only games that I've played on it are the Mario games and Donkey Kong Country Returns. Once I was through with those, it has sat unused for months. I play the 360 every couple of days when I have time - I think it's great for sports games (football) and racing games (Forza 4). I never got into the first person shooters, but if I had more time to play they'd be tons of fun also.

My vote would be for an Xbox 360, you'll have a blast with it.

I can't believe how civil this has remained so far. It was a good suggestion to check out the game titles for each console. That could make a big difference. Also the comfort of the controller in your hand could make a big difference, so playing with em in the store wouldn't be a bad idea.

I have all 3 consoles. The Wii has never even been hooked up since we moved into our new house last November. The only reason we even have it still is because we have a 2 year old and I'm sure she'll use the crap out of it at some point. The PS3 and 360 are both awesome systems. I got the ps3 first due to it having the blueray player and it works well as both. I later got the 360 because a couple of friends of mine had em and I wanted to game with them online. I pretty much use the 360 exclusively now. We have HTPC's on our tv's with a media server to stream from, so I don't even have blueray movies anymore and I don't have time to play a ton of different games, so I mostly stick to the couple I play with my buddies online. This has left the PS3 collecting dust. This is no way due to it not being a good system though.

In the end, if you already have friends that game online, I'd just get whatever they have. In addition to having the blueray player, I think the ps3 is a more capable system for doing other things, so if you don't already have friends online and are interested in the media capabilities of the ps3, I would go that route.

PC is your best choice by far. More power and much better graphics capabilities.
You might be able to just slap in a good graphics card in your existing PC and be ready to go.

If you can't swing that, then maybe a 360, then a PS3 in that order.

I think online capabilities and exclusive games are the biggest issues with picking a system. and also controller set up. i will admit i am biased to the playstation controller since i have owned playstations since the first came out. and i just cant get used to the 360 controller.

research some games that are exclusive to each system. (thats how i made my decision. the exclusives for PS3 were more interesting to me than xbox exclusives)

and online play:

if you are gonna play online a lot, a 360 would be better.
if you dont plan to play online a lot a ps3 may be better.

I dont play a lot anymore and when i was in the market for a system i wasnt playing too much so i figured that if i get a system i dont want to get one (360) that i have to pay to play online and it not getting used for possibly months at a time. So i went with the ps3. So yes, its online experience is not as good as the 360. but you can still play online with random people. and also it is not hard to set up a game with friends on ps3.

free online (although not as good), better controller in my opinion. and better exclusive games in my opinion are why i went with the ps3. also its a blu-ray player. but i'm going to assume you already own a standalone bluray player.

all consoles are good.

the atari 2600 owns all.

i had a xbox360, it had 3 rings of death in less than a year. great system....but yeh.

now i have a ps3, it gor the yellow light of death 1 time in 4 years.

i cant tell the difference in either system. they both have strong points.

the ps3 is geared more towrds a home entertainment piece rather a game console.

netflix on both. ps3 can connect to my home computers and play and watch files. i like that.

If you plan on multiplayer gaming then check which one your buddies have first. If you dont have anyone in mind, then there is a large enough playebase for either one.

I went with an xbox, and it has turned out to be more entertainment than just gaming. We use netflix on it all the time, and i'm always downloading demos and trying them out. I thought I would miss the blueray capability of a PS3, but I havent even thought about that once. I download or rent all my movies online so its not a big deal.

*edit* I also have a good gaming PC that I occasionally use on my PC, and will eventually get a PS3 and Wii just because.

The PC is the best as far as graphics go, the mouse and keyboard is better than any controller for FPS games too.

The multi-player experience is the best on consoles.

More servers.
Easier to connect and find them.
Not remotely as many cheaters.

On the PC there are so many ways to have an advantage over other players. On consoles 99% of the players have a TV and a controller, everything is on an even playing level. They all play at the same resolution, same graphical settings, etc, etc. Compared to a PC where you might be playing against someone with expensive hardware running a resolution of 2500X1600 with everything maxed out @ 70FPS using a $300 gaming mouse. On-top of the geeks who modify skins and use 'tweaks' to get an advantage over others.

For solo games and campaigns the PC is the best though. Every new game that comes out the graphical difference gets bigger as console hardware becomes more ancient.

I have all consoles and I mostly use my PS3. I actually think ps3 is easier to use and more straightforward. PSN is as good as live imo. Cant go wrong with either though.

I never use the wii

I've been an avid PC gamer for ever it seems. A friend of mine just gave me his xbox 360 since he never plays it. Im going to play Forza 4 on it and my wife is excited to try out the Kinect thing. I might pick up MW2 or MW3 just to see how a decent FPS is on console.
