Linked to this thread from another site, I felt inspired to do my part. $20 more towards this remarkable gesture.

It might be a good idea for those who were linked from another site to post where they are coming from. It would be kind of neat to see who all is coming in here.

As some of you know, I took a position as a plant manager at a machine shop, about a month ago. Anyways, I was making my way around the shop today and have been getting to know the employees better.

One guy I spent time with today helped to humble me. He is in his early 30's, a great worker and never says "boo" to anyone.

I asked some small talk questions, then about his family, if any. Well, he has a 12 year old daughter, in which he is raising alone because his girlfriend, the girl's mother, died 4 years ago at 28. She had a heart condition. Then, 2 years ago his mother died in a housefire.

This job he currently has, is his first permanent position since he started working. He's always been a temp up until last year when our company hired him. He does not have a vehicle and lives 6 blocks from work, in the middle of York city. Well, 6 months ago, while walking home from work at 11pm, he gets jumped by 5 guys. He received 2 fractured ribs and cuts to his face that required stitches. A cell phone and $100.00 were stolen.

He now pays an older gentleman (neighbor) $25.00 per week to take him to and from work. His 12 year old daughter gets off the bus at his deceased girlfriends mothers home and he and the neighbor pick the girl up at 11:15 pm every night to go back to their little apartment.

His work boots are so worn out that the heels are gone on the insides. I asked him about Christmas. He said he and his daughter have put the tree up and decorated it. They really enjoyed it. I asked him if she had given him a wish list from Santa. He said, oh yes. She asked for a MP3 player and digital camera. He said he had not shopped at all yet, but had planned on getting a taxi this weekend to go find some things for her. I said good luck with everything.

Here I am, just lost my job 2 months ago, but this guy has lost "nearly" everything, does not make a lot of money, and never has a complaint, I've heard, about anything. It just brought tears to my eyes.

Surely, the little girl will not receive the gifts she asked for. If he had the money himself, there is no doubt in my mind he would have those gifts for his daughter.

Luckily, we have an extra brand new Ipod that I received when purchasing excercise equipment last year. And, Cody has a brand new pair of steel toed workboots that are a tad too small that he has had in his closet for 6 months.

I'm going to take these two items to work on Monday and see that he anonymously receives them.

So, in closing, I was humbled today. I'm very thankful to have my beautiful family, our health, and our friends.

Happy Holidays !!!

Wow. And I thought not having a Termi for the last year and not having a prospect of getting another sucked! I hope that guy and his family have a happy X-Mas.

Saw this on chicagolandmustang.com, I'm glad to see there are so many caring people on the site.

One of the best SVTP threads i've ever seen.

This is a display of caring that I don't have words for. I am so re-inspired in regards to our economy and humanity. I ,too, had many bad feelings and was angry when I lost my high paying job of 10 years. One of the reasons I started this thread was because I basically wanted to admit that I had no right to complain about anything, when there are plenty of "Terry's" in this world. I will do my part to help whenever and wherever I can. I have been grounded, so to speak, by a man that has a life story that probably would have put me under the soil. He has been my teacher and inspiration this week !! I'll never forget it.

I also agree in sponsoring a family each year. What else could be better than making dreams come true for children !!!!

Amazing people can do Amazing things, as shown by this network of caring people from all over the US. THANK YOU !!!!!!!

As of 6am this morning, the fund is at $845.00. One member sent money from his twin turbo fund and said the turbos can wait. All of your paypal comments are appreciated very much. It will be a wonderful day for them. Still many donations from folks that have not posted here.

My family and I are going out today to meet with ScottinSSMD, Scott, in which he has donated a digital camera and some clothing items. Afterwards we will be picking up the gift cards. My wife recommended a card to one of the teenage clothing stores that girls like as one of the cards, as well as a Wal-Mart/ Target card.... My 13 yr old daughter is anxious to shop for Terry's girl. We do not know her size, but things can be exchanged. My wife explained that the girl would surely be happy to open a few items she can use/play with Christmas day, while the stores are closed.

If any donations come in after we have shopped today for the family, I will hand him the cash. Time is getting close. We work Monday and Tuesday next week, only. I will give him the cards and gifts on Monday and he will have a couple hours on Tuesday and all day Wednesday to shop, and of course after the holidays.

I'm so thankful to folks from all over that have graciously donated to this effort that has taken on a life of its own. There probably should be a cut off time, if that makes any sense, without trying to come accross as sinical. I work some silly hours the next couple days and won't be able to get to any stores during that span. We will be leaving the house around 10 am, Eastern, to go on this exciting trip. Any funds which come in after that today, I will hand Terry the cash at the same time as the other gifts, tomorrow. So, I would say, Midnight tonight. Sound reasonable ??

Merry Christmas
J.R.

Wow, It is great to hear that there are so many folks that are willing to open their hearts and wallets to help out. I am a regular on ShadyNinja's Racing Forum, where I saw the post, and have followed this thread like alot of others by donating my $20 to the pay pal account. Happy Holidays to all.

make it 1000.00

paypal on the way.

This is a touching story. I am so glad that people today can still be moved by a simple story of a man working against all odds to make things right for his child. That little girl will be brought up to understand the importance of caring, dedication and that even though you may not know it....there are angels watching.

The OP in this case.

Well done.

Merry Christmas
