Just out of curiousity, what is the fastest factory mustang in the 1/4 mile? I'm not talking about stangs modified by roush or saleen, but true factory ford cars.

BTW- I do consider SVT cars to be factory ford.

As far as I know, the 2010 GT500 has run the fastest stock 1/4 mile time. I'm sure the 2011 will be even faster.

hmmm I should have known that. I thought back in like 69, 70, or 71 Ford made a mustang with a drag pac option that ran low 11s or 10s but I can't remember what trim it was.

Maybe i'm just dreaming:rolling:

2010 Mustang Cobra Jet. If you're talking about cars that come with VINs then it'll be the 2010 GT500 and pretty soon it'll be the 2011 GT500.

The 68.5 428 Drag Pack cars are rumored to have run in the 11.70-11.80 range in the hands of a good driver. I suspect that would have been on slicks, but I don't know for sure.

fastest factory production street legal mustang would be either the 2009 GT500KR or the 2010 GT500. now, when MM&FF gets ahold of the 2011 GT500(with the aluminum block + electric power steering), then we'll have a new record.

I have to think that it is the KR also. I raced a KR a while back and it was much faster than a gt500. I suspect the KR is very underated because I barly pulled on it in a 530 rwhp GTO that runs low 11s.

How fast is the 09 KR? Wasn't the '69 and '70 Boss 429 in the high 11's or very low 12's?

Not hardly. As much as it pains me to say it, the Boss '9 was nothing more than a novelty in stock form. It was doing good to find its way out of the 14's. You could change the cam, add headers, tune it up and it would scream, but off the factory floor it was a toad.

11.92 @ 120 stock tires.

Not totally satisfied, we swapped the Goodyears for Mickey Thompson ET Street rubber. The street slicks were just what the doctor ordered, as we dropped from a 1.90 60-foot time to a 1.77, and in the process clicked off a best of 11.58 at 122 mph. Two more attempts resulted in an 11.63 and 11.59, both over 121 mph.

Is that Evan Smith? If so, add at least 3-5 tenths to the time for it to represent what mere mortals could reasonably expect to achieve. That guy went 12.99 in a stock 99 Cobra on the same day he went 12.89 in a stock 99 Z28. Not human.

It will be the 2011 GT500 as it's a KR and more with 10 more hp, 100+lbs lighter on the front end and with better factory Goodyears.

Truth

I was 18 in 1970 and working at Reynolds Ford in Syracuse, NY (a Shelby franchise), used to ride to work with customers and bring their cars back for service.(I was picking up OT)

Drove a Boss 429 several times and numerous GT500KRs, and 428CJ powered Fairlanes(Cobras).

The 428 torque under the curve would destroy the boss 429 unless it was built up with cam and headers.

Even these first 68 1/2 Cobra Jets were not as fast as the the new GT500KRs.
The times for B stock or super stock F obviously were on slicks.

I always loved these cars though!

Those 68 1/2's had some other mild mods done to them as well. I've got a 68' Hotrod magazine where they interview Hubert Platt about the cars and the winternationals. If I can find it I'll try and scan and post.

+1 on the prime muscle car wars being now. With the higher HP cars we are seeing, how long till the insurance industry steps in again and make our toys unaffordable?

Just think about how fast modern cars would be if they would eliminate all the useless crap and knock about 1000 lbs out of them.

You used to get hurt in the old stuff if someone crashed, yea they were lighter but they were crude too.

Can you imagine the NA power Ford could crank out if the wanted to do a 7 liter patterned after the current 5.0?

I am pretty sure more weight reduction is coming since it is so important for both fuel economy and performance.

I'll say it again... BORON STEEL!
