Does the VIN# indicate when the vehicle was built? Not a date, but a build order. Just curious as mine has a sticker on the drivers side door that tells me when it was assembled, but wanted to know if it was the 10th, 2000th, or 10,000th one built. Anyone?

Vin #'s were assigned to the vehicles as the purchase order (your special order or as part of a predetermined dealer allotment)was confirmed and build approved. This is the way it was explained to me. It has nothing to do with when the car was built. You'll receive a production sequence # a few months after the last one is built.

Does it just say #2,152? Or does it say #2,152 out of 8,000 (or some other number, you pick one)? If it is the latter, it would indicate production has stoppedfor the 2003 model Cobra. Somehow, I doubt it.

Production has not stopped - at least it better not! :mj: My '03 has a build date the week of 2/3. :D Also, the 10th Anniversary models won't be built until late summer, so there are quite a few '03's yet to come.

"Poy-ZIN,"

That's bogus information...Go try some other site where the readers have the I.Q. of a cold room temperature, but not here!
P.S. it's spelled Dearborn.

Poy-zin,
What color is your car? That will determine if this is a viable claim of a production cert. , but it doesn't look like it at this point.

This was copied from the Mustang Workshop manual CD.

Production Sequence Number

The last six VIN positions are the production sequence number. This number is also used as the vehicle serial and warranty number....100001-599999

Good info but contrary to known fact. Prevoius year Cobras production #'s had nothing to do with vin# and cars with close vins could be and have been built months apart.

OK POY-SIN. You opened a can of worms, now it's time to go fishing. Post a copy of this letter, or explain how you are the only Cobra owner that has one, and your car was built almost 4 months after mine..........

I don't see how that is possible. I could see two cars with very close Cobra serial #'s having VIN's that were seperated by a large margin BUT I can't two cars with close VIN's being built months apart. Serial #'s months apart yes, VIN's months apart no. Hope that makes sense. :)
