I just got back from Study Abroad in China and thought I would share some pics with everyone

We visited Shanhai, Xi'an, and Beijing. We took a few classes at Shanghai International Studies University about the Chinese economy as well as meeting with partners at Deloitte, KPMG, Grant Thornton, Siemans SFAE, and AmCham (where we met with the same people Biden is meeting with now).

The food was fantastic despite what many people say. The pollution is really bad and its hotter than hell. We only saw the sky twice. All the pics bellow are "clear" "sunny" days.

Here are a few pictures from the trip:

Shanghai:

On our way to class in the mornings we walked through a park. In China, they encourage health and fitness. Every morning the retired (mandatory retirement at 55) would exercise in the park. A lot of dancing and tai chi

Many of the Chinese have never seen a white/black person before. They treat you like rockstars. All they want to do is take your picture. You don't have to buy drinks at a bar/club, they will buy them for you. This is one of the little girls they were trying to take our picture with (you have to be careful holding kids b/c they don't where diapers)

Proof of good food. They have a lot more than Chinese food. It's just like NYC/LA/ATL (lots of diversity)

Traffic in China is unlike anywhere else in the world. It's crazy!!!! Bikes drive down the sidewalks, through parks, and anywhere else that you can physically drive them. Taxis are the same way. We were in a taxi more than once that got tire of driving in the street and drove down the sidewalk. Cars/bikes/buses will not stop for a pedestrian. It just isn't going to happen. After spending two weeks there I realize it makes a lot of sense. If they stopped for all of the people in China cars would still be sitting where they were parked. There are way to many people to stop for them. The advantage to that mentality is even though traffic may be bumper-to-bumper it never stops moving. I attribute this to the fact that the Chinese aren't going to stop for anything. This is a picture of a tame intersection

Power is not very abundant in China so nobody has a dryer. Many people can afford it but the government does not allow them to install a "big plug" in their homes

It's not uncommon to see people using these bicycles to transport goods. This is being pushed down a major, modern, highway

Wow! Great pictures!

Thank you for sharing.

My dad lives in Dalian and has been all over there. I recognize a lot of those places from his pictures.

I went over there back in 1993 with him and it was truly an amazing thing to experience.

Awesome pictures, those night life photos are amazing. I wish I would have studied abroad somewhere. Although, I would have been limited to English speaking countries.

On a side note, did you rock star status get you any of that side ways split tail?

I remember riding on my dad's scooter back when I used to live in Argentina a long time ago. I couldnt have been older than 5, my brother 4 and both my parents on an old italian scooter with one big seat. I used to ride where the kid is but facing forward and I dont think I would have remembered without a picture like that.:read:

really cool pictures, you have deep appreciation for the culture.

Amen to that! He surely does. That looked to be an absolutely great trip and your photos reflect seeing the Chinese culture as you see it. Great photos. Now I'm going to take a look at the complete set.

P.S. - Couldn't help but notice all the traffic on the Great Wall in one of your photos. I didn't know that The Great Wall's real value came in the way it eased transportation throughout the the mountainous wilderness around it.
