i bought a 2004 Cobra with a 2.76 upper and a #2 lower pulley putting out 16psi on 60lb injectors, with a diablosport MAF on a JLT CAI, stock h pipe with all cats, slp loudmouth axle back, it also came with the SCT tuner handheld with 3 maps. 1 for 16psi on 91 octane. 1 for 93 octane? and 1 for stock setup, as we california drivers know we need to smog our cars... I have purchased the stock upper pulley, the stock injectors, the JLT CAI is carb legal only thing that has me kinda concerned is the diablo MAFia you guys think i should remove the diablosport MAFia module just purchase a stock intake? or does anyone know if i have a chance passing the smog with that sucker on there? thanks

Chances are the car is tuned for the MAFia even on the "stock" tune. I would just tuck it away. Or cover the red part with some black tape. Chances are most smog tech won't even know what it is.

The JLT has a CARB number. I would run that and have the number handy.

Still amazes me that this comes up. Car needs to be completely stock - that includes not having A/F gauges AND aftermarket boost gauges. I’d get the stock lower ring as well that Metco sells (sometimes techs will measure that). Make sure you have the CARB sticker that shows the EO number for the JLT CAI. In regards to the mafia - ditch that when you get it smogged and put the stock one in..why waste your time?

Buy an OBD reader and make sure every monitor is ready before you take the car in. No tunes or anything are allowed on these cars, chances are if you roll up with a tune NOT stock or any monitor not ready, they will refer you to a ref in the future.

That depends on if he's going to the ref station or just a regular smog station. For the ref station, yes fully stock is better. If it's a regular smog station I'd just make sure the CARB numbers are handy.

i appreciate the replies guys, i will be going to a regular smog shop i might just bite the bullet and buy a CAI with the MAF housing thats CARB legal and the metco stock lower ring just avoid future headaches living in this state .
The car also has an aftermarket idler pulley, i purchased the pulley cover as well but because of that idler it cant go on, unfortunately the car did not come with any oem parts

All you need is a shorter belt then you can take the idler off and rub the cover. I think someone on here clearanced a cover to be able to run the snub idler.

I just purchased as many stock parts as i could, i had to switch out the injectors, maf, and throttle body/plenum. I still have the 2.7 pulley and lower #2 ring, my friend has a shop that wont fail me because of these 2 unstock items but this is a regular smog. At the end of the day anything that looks non factory you run the risk of failing at the mercy of the tech doing your smog so be aware...

Man, the joys of living in CA. I really feel bad for you guys, mods wise. What a pain in the butt, time wise and money wise, to try to skirt the smog test.

it really does suck, bob. and you know it is all just a big goddamn money grab by the state.

if clean air is really the goal (and it should be, i think we can all agree with that) then it should not matter what kind of equipment your car has installed or is visible... as long as the exhaust coming out of the tailpipe meets a certain level, that's all that should really matter.

Smart idea but California has a snitch program and when caught they charge you... it’s literally coming down to doing a quarter horse ecu mod and running anything that is carb legal including blowers, exhaust, etc. or just hope the smog guy who passes you no matter what doesn’t get caught.
Sct is my first suspect due to my car always being passed legally and after my tune (between smog cycles) got hit with a ref and the cars been off the road since about 6 months after I had it tuned.
