Hello Everyone,

I took the 65 out of the garage as I needed to do a little work on the Fox Body. So, I couldn't resist snapping a couple of pictures.

When I got ready to put it back in the garage I took it for a quick run around the block. G-Damn, after driving the fox for a few days this car feels like an absolute beast. I love the power this car makes.

What a ton of fun!!!!

Man, that ceramic coating works wonders......

I'm impressed with that ceramic coating as well. We put it on Tracy's car and even with all the rain it doesn't look nearly as dirty as you think it would. And it was easier to dry off than the Mini the last time we washed them.

Just keeping a record of the car here. I posted these pictures in the "Car Show Etiquette" thread, but wanted to keep the running tally here.

One thing I did not mention in the other thread..... SVTP members here told me that once I started to take this car out I would get a lot of questions and people would be definitely walking around my car.

Well, as soon as I pulled up a crowd gathered around the car LOL. Also, one guy was telling me the paint on the car was beautiful. I told him that I was the one who painted it. He asked me for my business card. LOL.... I thought that was pretty cool. I told him I'm just a hobbyist and painted the car in my garage. However, I do think it's cool that when people see my paint job, and I tell them I did it, they think I'm a paint and body guy. Pretty sweet indeed!

Hello Everyone,

Went to an all Fords car show on Saturday. It was held at the local Casino. Took the 65 out to have some fun and see how I would fare against the local Fords. Overall it was a great time. A bunch of people were checking my 65 out, asking me questions and providing very positive feedback. It was a little warmer than I would like and it lasted a little longer than I liked, but overall a good show and turn out.

This event was put together by the local Mustang Club. It was sponsored by various local businesses and the local Mustang Club provided all the bodies (i.e. parking staff, set up/tear down personnel, registration personnel and, wait for it, the judges).

In the end, I didn't win S#!T LMAO!!!! However, as the prizes are being handed out I noticed a bunch of Mustang Club members, who were wearing the lime green "Event Staff" shirts, were going up to collect their trophies. Favoritism/Buddy system at it's finest in my opinion. BTW, the club justified the judging by saying if a club member has a car in first generation Mustang they cannot judge that category. However, they know all their buddies in the other categories.. What sense does that make?

Oh well, I had fun, I just hate this political BS that seems to be in every part of life now.

My car at the show.

This is the car that won best first generation Mustang (My category). Yes he's a club member who was working at the show. Oh remember that silver LX next to it for later......

This car won second place first generation Mustang. I didn't take a picture of third place, but it was another 67 fast back that looked similar to this car, but was blue.

This 1970 or 71 Torino won first place in the general Fords category (other than Mustang). Guy is a club member and worked the show. This guy also won best paint AND peoples choice award. Now, I think my paint is just as good if not a little better. However, this car is beautiful and I can understand if the paint and body judges picked this over mine. No issues with me at all.

There were different categories, obviously. Now, I didn't take pictures because I thought it was an abomination, but a guy in the third generation class had a 1990 LX Fox Body (as mentioned above). Overall it was nice. It was a clean silver Fox with black molding and a standard interior. However, it was LS swapped. WTF? a Ford show with a Chevy powered vehicle? Well guess what? He's a member and was working at the show and he won in his class. GTFO, only his buddies would say his car is worthy of a trophy at an all Fords show.

I didn't take pictures of newer stuff as I just wasn't interested in those vehicles, but in those classes Mustang Club members also won. Now it wasn't ONLY Mustang Club members who won, but a significant amount in my opinion.

My brother took a video of me departing the venue and this was in the shot. Well, this Bronco won best of show. Really, this Bronco was the best of show. I felt my car was worthy of best of show and a couple others were better than this in my opinion.

My personal opinion is the Mustang club invited the Bronco club and the Mustang Club gave the best of show award to a Bronco to appease the Bronco club. I have no proof and I could just be a sore loser/conspiracy theorist LMAO!!! But, that's my take and I stand by it as this favoritism BS seems to rampant in most car clubs.

A very nice Red Cobra.

There was even a CO at the show.

A young guy owned this Fox Body. He said his grand mother gave it to him. He won behind that LS swapped LX. SMH..... He should have been way ahead of that LS POS LMAO!!!

Sweet 93 Cobra. I think this was first place 3rd generation, but cannot say for sure.

Besides my car, I really liked this 65 Fastback. Can you believe even he didn't win anything? Well, he's not a club member either LOL....

And here are some general Fords at the show.

This F-100 had a Shelby Mustang engine in it. I thought this was a candidate for Best of Show.

56 Thunderbird. He won for most creative display because he had the drive in tray on his drivers window.

I didn't catch the year, but this Galaxie is badass.

I've never seen one of these before. Starliner. This car was cool too.

A sand drag racer Bronco. This thing sounded wicked when he pulled in.

Thanks Brad. I hear you. My dad had a 1955 F-100. He sold it while I was in the Army. Wish I could have bought it. Those things are badass when fixed up pro touring or resto-mod style.

Can't say Ive ever cared much for car shows, that kinda stuff being a big reason. If I go to one I might bring the car but I just make a lap or two and then Im on my way.

Yeah, there were some VERY nice cars there. My parents came out. On their way in they seen a guy with a 57 Thunderbird in the parking lot. My Dad asked him why he wasn't in the show. Guy said he wasn't into participating in car shows and didn't want to have to stay there all day. He just wanted to look around and then head out.

I can definitely understand that. I recently finished building my car and this was only the second official car show I participated in.

I'm starting to understand things and see how it works. What I may do is continue to participate in the Friday night cruise in's where there's no judging, no requirement to stay a certain amount of time and no money or trophies involved.

That seems to be a better environment to hang out with my car and have a good time.

Well, you guys are not going to believe this, but the guy who owns the orange 1970 Torino called me last night and asked if he could swing by and talk to me. I asked about what and he said the show. I said I had some comments for him as well and to come on over. Now keep in mind I do not know what specific position he holds in the club, if any, but he is a senior member.

He gets to my house and we start talking about the show in general. Then we get down to specifics and I explain my perception of the club handing out a lot of trophies to club members. He said he could assure me that no cheating or nefarious activity was conducted, but did say he could see how it looked that way to outsiders. We continued to talk and to keep a long story short I believe him. Even he said he could not understand why my car didn't win anything. We throw ideas on how to improve the show and one of his ideas was to have better classes. He felt the classes were too broad. I agreed. He said in my class they should have first gen Mustang stock and first gen Mustang modified. That way if judges like stock over modified I don't get screwed like I did and vice versa.

After I explain my perception and we have our discussion, I asked him why he wanted to talk to me in the first place. He said that of all the trophies he won that day (he won 4 in total for 2 vehicles (3 for his Torino and 1 for his Saleen)) he felt he really could not, in good conscious, accept the best paint award. He said he believes my car had the best paint and he wanted to give me his best paint award. I thought that was very honorable of him, but I told him I could not accept his offer.

I told him that I felt his paint is on par with mine and if someone picked his paint over mine I could accept that decision. I also told him that the trophy was not given to me by the judges, so I could not accept it. I told him I was grateful he felt I deserved the award out of all the other cars there, but his gesture was enough for me.

So, we chatted a little longer and I showed him my cars and diecast collection and then he left.

I think he's an honorable guy and wants to ensure things are done right and fairly. He is looking into ways to make club sponsored events better. He did mention he feels that club members should not be judged at club events. I told him I think they should be judged, but to get a disinterested party to do the judging and not club members. He agreed.

Overall it was a great visit and I really do think he wants to make things better for the club and those who participate in their events. I'm still not sure if I want to be a member, but his visit does have me revisiting my opinion on the situation.....

Those people really don't have a clue as to how much you developed your attention to detail. I mean, just the painting alone was done with trial and error. You had a determined goal for perfection on everything. AND....you succeeded. That's hard to communicate to those looking at and admiring the finished product.

You know it's funny you say that Bob. That was my wife's exact point of view on the situation concerning the car show this past weekend.

She said people don't know me or the work I put into the project. She then indicated that once I tell people that Dave Kindig built the air filters for me then they are going to think this guy has money, so why would he paint it himself?

So, I think you're right and probably several factors combined to result in trophies for others, but no soup for me LMAO!!!!

I usually get asked......"what brand of polish and lipstick are you using". I don't ever expect to get something, nor do I give a shit if I don't. That being said, out of 160 or so car shows, in the 11 years I've be doing this, the Trophy Nazi pointed at me about 25 times. I don't have anything to complain about.

I understand your point Vince and agree with you. I don't expect to get anything either. However, when car A wins and it is nowhere near my car it does make me wonder what is going on.

Also, when the people going up to collect the trophies are mainly wearing the green "Event Staff" T-shirts that looks really odd as well.

I was standing next to my car when the judges appeared and I let them know I was available if they had any questions. They asked about my engine and my paint, finished judging and then moved on. No big deal.

I've been to other car shows and experienced the same thing with my Checkered Cobra, but I get it if the judges think my paint job is weird or not supposed to be on a Terminator.

I get it...judging is subjective. So, maybe my 65 wasn't their cup of tea LOL....

Agreed, Show event and staff peeps should not receive a show award. I have to say, I've never seen that at any of the shows I've attended. Patience and persistence will serve you well my friend, you already have the car.

At our annual show club member cars are judged by volunteers from a different club, and the awards are split to club members and non-members. Club member cars are only eligible for the club awards and not in with the non-member cars. There are more awards for the non-member cars.

Go buy yourself the tallest trophy you can fit in a corner of your garage, make the plate say "Best Damn Car In This Garage."
