Guys,
I'm in the market for a radar detector, but have no idea of what's the best brand, best performance etc...so any insight is welcomed as far as what you're using or what you've had positive results with in the past....
Thanks for the opinions....

Escort 9500ix (blue) Got speed cams and speed trap updates. Expert mode lets you know the different signals and how strong.

Radar detector choice all depends on what your driving consists of. I have the Escort Redline because I live out in the country and do a lot of highway and interstate driving and very little in the city. The Redlines range is absolutely ridiculously far. However, you get in to a city and it is very sensitive. If you're scenario is like mine, I recommend the Redline. Only thing that turned me away from the V1 was the appearance of it.

+1. V1 has very slightly better range, but it goes off constantly with false alarms, pretty soon you get desensitized to it, and ignoring it when you shouldn't. I wouldn't trade my 9500ix for 10 V1's. I tested them both side by side for 3 months in 2011. Also tested using my wife's radar gun.

I have a V1 in my Shelby and a Passport in my F150. If I had to buy another one tomorrow it would with out a doubt be another V1.

Escort redline or Beltronics magnum, both have a superior antenna to the outdated 9500ix. Thats if you want a windshield detector. Personally I think that Ford uses something in the glass that cuts down on the sensetivity of the RD. (at least in the '12 gt I have)
400-500 bucks

If you want to spend 1200 you can get a installed detector which will be more sensative.

From what I've read, the Redline is better for in very rural areas, but not so much so for areas that area little more congested.
I'm leaning toward the V1, but the Escort is a close second due to the GPS feature and the update capability make it attractive as well, although it does say you need a Windows computer and I run all Apple...so I'd need to find a workaround for that....

I have a Escort Redline and it works very well. Watch out for instant laser. Haven't found any one in Fla. using Laser, but in Georgia they love to use it on I75. Most use "KA band", the Redline gives me plenty of time to slow down, very long range. Have it hardwired on a blendmount.

The 9500ix seems to have the best overall ratings out there, on every review site. I do like the arrows on the V1 though....tough call...from what I'm finding, the 9500ix seems to be the most advanced detector out there...redline being a close second, but the redline range blows everything else away.

I have the 9500. Range is solid not outstanding. Best feature is the red light and speed camera locations that are built in through updates.

That is a good feature...especially with more and more speed cameras popping up...

You really need to have laser protection nowadays.

9500ci- fully built in.

All mentioned are good choices, I went with the beltronics because it had just as good of reviews as others and cost half as much. Gives me a good mile to mile and half before I get close. Important things to consider when using any of them. Get a blendmount and hard wire it into the rear view mirror, the higher in the window the better. Range isn't as good when you suction cup it. Make sure there is some traffic and your not the only car or two. Sometimes they wait to hit it until you drive by. Careful coming up on hills or going through an over pass, speed traps. These tips have kept me ticket free for years, whichever one you choose you still have to be smart about how it's used, that's the key.

I just put the Escort Smartradar in the Boss. It mounts behind the mirror, hard wires to the Mirror or in my case, the dome light power so it's not very noticeable at all. It works with our iPhones connected to Escort Live. The combination of radar and the Live is pretty nice to have.

How was the wiring? Was it difficult to wire? I know most get wired into the powered rear view mirror, but where did you wire the radar detector to in the boss?
