Meh. Between the blah looks of the new trucks for the last few years and the price tag to go along with em, I'm hoping my old rig keeps chuggin along
Interesting the notes about transmission issues on the 10 speed and surprising since Ford and GM worked on that 10 speed together. The one in my ZL1 is flawless. Sounds like the programming Ford is using on it needs work.
Im ready to trade back down to the '14 I had.
I feel the older trucks tow better due to being heavier.
I believe that is part of the story. I should have known better, didn't want the 3.31 gear, and wasn't wild about the "super 8.8. But there was so much money off this truck and I was going up a package that I couldn't resist the deal.
I did talk to a few of our customers that have the same configuration. They said it pulls fine. Which I think the truck handles it o.k., it just sucks fuel like crazy with that gear. I can change them sure, but will have to do both axles(4x4).
I dont pull trailer a whole lot but when you need to, you want it to perform. My old truck got at least 10 mpg with my cobra vert in an enclosed. This new one will struggle to hit 7 with the same load.
Right, I don't have a problem with power either, just the gear. The issue to me really isn't power, because the new trucks are stronger across the board. The issue is stability. An enclosed trailer moves the new trucks around a lot more than the old ones.
What is your setup? I didnt think you got the 8.8 anymore unless you had the base v6. I thought all the tow packages came with the 9.75in.I believe that is part of the story. Interesting. Is yours 4x4 or 4x2? I guess most of the ones ive seen 2.7, 5.0, 3.5eco are tow package(not max) 4x4 all have had the 9.75in. But maybe cause you have the 3.31 gears. Cause im seeing most with 3.55. Could be the dealers in ca like to order the 9.75 with the 3.55 in all there 4x4I have an xlt sport screw withe the 5.0. If you don't get the max payload package you don't automatically get a 9.75. Lots of the 3.5 ecoboost trucks do have the 9.75, but most of the 5 liters and all the 2.7's I've seen have a super8.8 starting with the 2015MY.

It's 4x4. Has trailer tow but not max tow. I was just cruising some local inventory on the web and every 5.0 truck I found came back with either the L9 (3.55)or L3 (3.31)axle code which are both e locker 8.8's
Thanks for the mention! Yes we can completely disable the auto stop start and get you alot more power out of your vehicle! No biggie. Just get a Livernois tune for it and they'll turn it off for you (and you'll be making even more power )
Option code 627 for heavy duty payload, 9.75 ring gear and a 3.73 ratio. Thats the only option I see that guarantees a 9.75.
The axle codes I listed don't actually say whether or not they are 8.8 or 9.75, but the axle code on my truck is L3, and is a 3.31 8.8 ring gear.
Going to do some more digging but looking in the workshop manual, it lists the gear ratios for the 8.8 as 3.31, 3.55, 3.73, and 4.10. Under 9.75 it doesn't list options.
Makes me wonder if the 3.73 for the heavy duty payload is the only 9.75 they offer?
Good to hear you are able to disable the auto stop startThanks for the mention! Yes we can completely disable the auto stop start and get you alot more power out of your vehicle!
