I do see the option code 627 comes with the 3.73 and 9.75.

I know 410s which on in the raptor come with the 9.75.

Today at the ford dealer i did see 3.55 and 3.73 with the 9.75. But they were both 3.5ecoboost. All the 5.0 and 2.7 i saw today were 3.31 and 3.15 with the 8.8 and just a regular tow pacjage or no tow package.

4.10 was in the...6.2 raptor? 4.10 also came in the Tremor and it has a 9.75. These two trucks are the only trucks that came with 4.10 factory.

11-14 had 3.73 on max tow and 15 plus max tow is 3.55 isnt it? I didn't think you could get a 3.73 in a 15+?

This super 8.8 started when, 15? i forget. Is a 9.75 really needed over super 8.8?

On the build sheet for 2018
4.10s are shown for the 17-18 raptor
Which is now a 3.5HO ecoboost

In 2015 you could not get the 3.73. It was not an option.

For 2018 F150 3.73s can be had in
2.7ecoboost
3.5ecoboost
5.0 v8

For a daily driver truck the super 8.8 will be fine. I would not option to get the super 8.8 as IMO the 9.75 is a proven solid strong axel that tends to last with little maintenance.

Super 8.8 is cost savings for ford over 9.75.

My 2017 has 3.73s with a E locker. Its also a 5.0, 4x4 with a 9.75 rear end. 3.73s are rare on these trucks its seems. When I was shopping I found dozens with 3.55s then I found my truck which had everything I wanted option wise and low and behold it had 3.73 gears as well. I bought it on the spot and love it in all aspects. Sure the new ones are expensive but you get so much content and tech in the new trucks. I had a 2007 w a 5.4 that I bought new and traded it in on this 17. Light years apart. A decade makes a huge difference.

So I'm curious then, do you know if your truck has the max payload package? LT tires from the factory would be the dead giveaway for the 627 option. I ask because thats the way from the spec sheet I can see the 9.75 is available with a 5.0 engine.
It's kind of driving me nuts! I look at every truck I work on, every new one dumped by transport and all 5.0 trucks seem to have an 8.8. All 3.5 EB trucks have a 9.75. The axle codes seem to denote gear ratio only, and I just can't find what dictates the ring gear size. Used to be easy. Big motor option got the bigger axle.

That's because the big motor usually made the big power, which isn't always the case anymore.

Super 8.8 is cost savings for ford over 9.75.

I had no idea 4.10 could be on eco raptor, i thought 4.10 was done. The way I read your message was it sounded like you could order 4.10 on a "regular" truck.

Ok so I was right about 15+ not having 3.73. I think they limited it to 3.55 bc lighter truck did not need to gearing to perform the same as the previous steel bodies + fuel economy? I'm guessing 3.73 is back for 2018 bc 10 speed, so you can get as good or better fuel economy with that. if you have a 5.0 NA and towing, I would opt for 3.73, eco doesnt need that.

Yes the 9.75 has been proven. The super 8.8 has a much larger pinion and thicker ring gear than the old 8.8. Also the super 8.8 is lighter than 9.75 for fuel saving, that played a factor into Ford putting them in too.

Finally, if you are towing a lot and using bed a lot, do 15+ have HD payload? If you got HD paylod in a 11-14, it has 7 lugs, extra leaf, 3.73 and different rated tires. I believe its 8500lb GVWR** in that year, i am not sure what 15+ can do, I imagine more.

Do you happen to have the window sticker to that list all the options?

Luckly for the Raptor they got the 410s. Im sure its to compensate for the bigger tires. Still wouldn't mind having it as an option for the whole F150 line. Especially if you plan to lift the truck and put bigger tires on it. I remember the 11-14 with 5.0 and 3.73 were dogs when lifted and bigger tires. Not enough gear.

For 15-16 im sure the only reason you could only go up to 3.55 was to meet the mpg with the 6speed auto. People wanted to still get 3.73. The lighter body also helped with mpg and ofcourse made it faster. Even the ecoboost could always use gears if your hauling or towing. Or live up in the mountains.

I do understand the super 8.8 is upgraded and thats only because it needs to able to handle the extra tq and load of the new trucks, the old 8.8 just wont cut it. Its only there for the fuel economy and cheaper cost. But really the 9.75 didnt really seem to hurt mpg. The 11-14 with the 5.0 and 3.73 were still getting 21mpg on the freeway.

I dont remember if the 15-16 had the HD payload option. Maybe someone else could answer that. But i know the payload on the 15-16 were not even close to the HD payload of the 11-14. Its less on the 15-16. I think the 17s had the HD payload with 3.5ecoboost and 5.0. Now on the 2018 looks like the 2.7, 3.5,5.0 all have the HD payload option with 3.73

I'm sure that a reflash will fix the shift timing issues and the engine hesitation. New vehicles that have major updates always have some little issue. I was a Ford tech for 47 years and I would say without a doubt the new vehicles are way better than they ever were. The downside is the complexity and cost, I can't believe the cost of a new F-150 and Mustang. They are awesome though.

No my truck does not have the max payload pkg. I have the 6 lug 20" optional rims. Its a Lariat 501A equipment group but under the options column, it has the 7000#GVWR pkg and trailer tow pkg. Again this is a FX4 truck and 3.73s are available this way. I do have the window sticker, just forgot how to upload a pic. Its a pretty heavily optioned truck.

See I knew there had to be another way to get the 9.75 with a 5.0, just didn't see it in the XLT trim. Never looked at Lariats tho.
