Hello everyone, Mine is getting rebuilt due to a CS issue. I was wondering if it was worth while swapping out the stock radiator for a larger aftermarket one for improved cooling. I have read there are potentially some clearance issues with aftermarket ones. Just curious what others have...
Hello, mine is in the rebuild process part of which I have to replace the harmnonic balancer which was dammaged when it fell off. With 550hp at the wheels will the stock HB suffice or is it better to go with an aftermarket one. I know there are a few options out there but I would like to hear...
Hello, now that the rebuild is underway I am sure I will be frequenting this forum much more in the future. My motor is out for a rebuild. I know the current clutch is fine but I am considering replacing it since everyting is off the car. Mine makes about 525ftlb of tq at the wheels. So I...
Good information thanks. Mine had the Metco on it for about 10yrs. There were no issues other than the broken bolt. But I believe that was just a ticking time bomb that started prior to the Metco mod.
Hello, it has been over 3yrs since the car bit the dust with harmonic balancer falling off during a drive (CS bore dammaged with what appears to be a poor attempt to fix a broken bolt). The engine is finally out and off to the machine shop for repair. I have a brand new stock HB and a used...
I did previously remove the steering shaft under the dash and at the rack (pretty easy). It will not slide through the header tubes at the angle it has. I did not see a way to separate it at the telescoping area. DG you mention cutting the pinches.....what did you use to cut it? Is the MM...
I saw steering shaft telescopes, but I did not see a way to separate it. Sounds like I need to take a closer look. It has been a few months since I worked on it. Hmmm missing starter bolt.
These are long tube hooker headers. Steering column goes right between two of the tubes.....zero clearance. I cannot remove the starter without removing the header. Headers block two of the bolts. Looks to me like the steering column also has to come out with the header in unison. I was...
Hello, I am in the process of pulling the engine on mine and got to the point of removing the headers earlier this summer. That is when I learned the K member needs to be dropped to access the header bolts. Then it got hot here in AZ and I lost the motivation. I have the engine bar to...
Good info thanks. Yes the header has to come off to pull the starter on mine as only one bolt is accessible. Seems headers are quite the project on these wide engines. Clearances are tight.
Hello, I am in the process of pulling the engine on mine to replace the CS. It has a pair of long tube Hooker Headers on it and the steering shaft runs between the tubes literally with no clearance. I have disconnected it at the rack and inside the car. The problem is it will not pull through...
Thanks I pulled it today. I did not remove the intercooler manifold from the front. Was a little tricky getting it out due to the weight. Two of us lifted it out. Separating the SC from the manifold seems like a catch 22. Fuel rail is in the way, and there is no clearance under the intake...
Hello, I am pulling the SC/Intake as part of an engine removal and have most of the electrical and vacuum disconnected. It seems you want to separate the SC/Intercooler from the intake before removing all of it. This approach is documented in the installation manual which I have but some of...
Yep will probably be pulling the motor, then engine disassembly in the coming weeks. Not sure if I will tackle the engine disassembly. Will know more after I speak with a local machine shop next week. Should be an adventure. Hopefully not too many silly questions.
Hello, I actually posted this about a year ago when the issue was discovered after the harmonic balancer had fallen of during a drive (luckily I was on a back country road with no traffic when it happened). The car has been sitting now for 18mos in CO with the exception of a few starts to move...
Thanks for the feedback. Great info. The engine work was done back in 2007; stroker kit, .020 bore, cams, pretty much the works for $8k. The stroker kit alone was $2k. So it lasted 14 years before it hit the ice berg. I did speak to an Eagle rep to discuss the damage and options. They also...
Hello, I posed this event several months ago. I have had time to take a closer look at the carnage and now understand more about it. It appears what happened is the screw broke off inside the crank shaft and what remained of the screw damaged the threads in the CS. This CS is not stock and...
Hello I am looking for the correct length for the inner belt with all the stock size pulleys. Mine broke and came off (long story) so I do not have a reference. I have seen 96in and around 70in per online searching so it is not really clear. Thanks in advance for any info.
Yes indeed this is crazy. The snout looks intact, there was some residual grease on it from presumably when it was installed. The surface was smooth and the notch for the pulley looked ok. Have not validated the condition of the threads on the crank shaft yet.
