Whatever utility is out there made a significant investment in a double circuit overhead line that runs parallel to the bridge as seen from Google Street view.

Baltimore gas & Electric put those overhead lines in a year or two ago, I don't think they fully replaced anything underwater though. I have a buddy who worked that project for them, i'd have to ask.

The tunnels you are referring to are our alternate routes around this mess.

That's a pretty cool project to work on.

While I design transmission lines, I haven't had any experience with a t-line on foundations in a marine environment.

Sure but in this case the bridge is a stationary object and has been there for 50 years.

Ships crashing into each other are probably, more often than not, a result of both ships trying to be in the same place at the same time. It can be the fault of both ships or just the fault of one depending on circumstances.

Of course there are instances of a moving ship hitting a stationary ship but fault becomes easier to determine in that instance and most of of the time will be the fault of the moving ship.
So, two movable ships vs one immobile ship vs an immobile structure. Not sure I've changed my mind...

Yes, most ships of that size do. Some speculate that it could be why you see it come back online a couple times. But if you've ever been in an industrial setting you're probably aware of what happens when you don't regularly test and maintain the backup system. Primary failure. Backup kicks on...and quickly fails.
We have four or five diesel powered backup generators at my site and they get tested on a routine basis. I always know when I drive past them on my golf cart because it's loud as shit.

Cant find it to link other than on FB stream but there's a longer clip where it shows the ship loses power, gets it back, begins a correction maneuver (too late to matter) then loses power again and hits the bridge.

I was going to post the same info. That was the first report I heard on the radio this morning when the news started coming out here. Said it was going on for a few minutes prior to the actual accident and it was repeatedly losing power.

Odds on the new bridge being mandated to be made from recycled plastic straws and tofu?
I dunno but ill bet the next one has huge dolphins like the skyway in tampa has after she went down the first time...those things are massive

And they hold piles of fish lol...grouper, tarpon, jacks, sometimes a bull red lol

Hot spot. Lived up there forever ago. Don't forget the sheephead, outstanding eating flacky white fish.
This link is from a site I belong to, as I'm into scanners.
